I am not an expert but many of hardware emulations are forked from some kind of software implementation.
To my knowledge, dosbox has FM OPL2 emulation but nothing with wavetable.

However PcEm seems to support GUS, source code below:

I also learned about FluidSynth included in M32-Pi project which might also be a good reference for wavetable synthesis, link below:

Does anyone know if there are any plans to sell mounting brackets for this particular card? I see in the past it looks like there was some being manufactured and sold.

Based on what I read in forum the bracket is one for a generic sound card with joystick port, Creative, Yamaha, etc.. It is probably cheaper to purchase a PCI sound card locally for less than 10 USD and extract the bracket.

Another option is 3D printing from sketch here:

The only caveat is extra connector hole on top, if that bothers you, you have look harder for a card that doesn't have it

Does that line up otherwise? I could certainly adapt the model if needed to fit the Argus. I was kinda assuming I’d need to model something from scratch, so if this at least mostly works, that saves me a bunch of effort.

To my eyes they line up, attached photo comparison.

ARGUS gurus can can confirm 😀
I don't have any PCIs with joystick port but all of ISA's without volume knob the holes line up; so there must be some common standard.
I am sure anyone has one other ISA PCI card around; why not try that first.

If I can get something that lines up properly, I might go that route.

Given the time and investment to bring this card to life, I just didn't want to skimp out on the bracket and wind up with something that looks janky. The extra investment to make it look professional is worth it to me.

laser cutter, metal punch (or brake), and a belt sander. Easy peasy; your local hacker space should probably have all of these.

There is also bracket.com, not sure if its finacially viable. It looks interesing but never got a quote. I've been looking for a bracket for my Snark Barker.

This is great!!! Here´s hoping one day we can see the GF1 chip there as well so someone may make a FPGA implementation of it.

🤣, my Autodesk EAGLE 'service' got bumped down to Free level rather than Standard, so now I can't finish the design I was working on back in January. It just gives an error because the board (a regular 16-bit ISA) is too big for the free version.
Time to start remaking the GUSt and all its components in KiCAD.
Should be less of a mess than the fusion 360 / eagle cloud stuff.

So far, have got the Interwave's symbol and its footprint remade. There's less in KiCAD that's ready made it seems.

I've seen some AWE32 patches for some of the games with GUS support.
I've been recently seeing people spending 400-700 USD on Gravis card which doesn't make sense.
There are only 10-20 game titles supporting GUS. They must be really hardcore fans or extremely serious collectors for spending that much money.

I am actually very new to GUS so i'm still figuring it out - i havent heard of it until relatively recently, i was a Sound Blaster kid in the 90s. I am also a collector, though with a very small collection - I would love an original GUS. But you're right the 400-700 is out of my price range for such limited support. A good clone in the 100-200 range is something i can stomach with some planning. But as I am a fan of native hardware and a collector of such antiquities, emulation really doesn't interest me.

If that fails, I'll sell off large parts of my remaining InterWave stock for profit and go open source (gerbers [yes, that would mean either going with the current state of the PCB or rerouting the card yourself] + BOM + editable schematic + documentation).

Therefore at the worst case you'll have a virtually open source GUS PnP in 6 months +/- 1-2 weeks.

Sorry I'm late to the discussion by several weeks, but i was part of those last 2 pages you mention. Your proposals all sound great and I look forward to seeing your work/effort shine in the public eye in one way or another. I hope there will be an announcement if anything comes of that American negotiation. I just hope I can afford it!

I'm certainly in the no equipment or skills category but I'm willing to put in the effort to learn and build the card myself.

I think it'll be good training for future mod projects. I have quite a few HDMI boards to install in my consoles.

I can definitely see building one of these cards being applicable practice for HDMI mods. Lots of patience and flux.

If you're looking to learn soldering, I'd highly recommend getting some soldering practice kits and train on those. Best to make any initial mistakes on a throwaway kit rather than something like an Argus PCB.

I can agree with that. Easy to burn off pads or damage other things if you don't have the right equipment or are unfamiliar with the techniques and tools.
