Hi,

Enyone found an adapter or sorts to reuse those funny hard cards? Got one of those 20MB ones, probably doesnt work but havent tested. Would be fun to actually get some sort of CF card in there or something and use the idea of it in some computer 😀

Thanks in advance!

I’d imagine a lot of it comes down to what interface and encoding the hardcard uses. Most I’ve seen are MFM (though I’d expect some to be RLL), which would essentially mean that you wouldn’t be able to read the medium (CF or otherwise) on anything other than the same brand and model of controller.

Don’t think I’ve ever seen an IDE hardcard, so natively using CF would be impossible, it’d need to be an active adapter.

There are MFM/RLL simulators for professional equipment.
However, it's very expensive by our standards.
Simulating the properties of the ferro magnetic surface in real time is very demanding.
A Raspberry Pi would be far too weak for this, I'm afraid.
Such a thing would require an FPGA, at least.
Maybe some Gotek hardware could be repurposed.
But for a very slow MFM model, at best. Maybe 50 to 100 KB/s, I suppose ?

Edit: That's one of these that I was thinking of: http://www.pdp11gy.com/sd_E.html

Thanks thats something i could persue. I guess i just have to power it up and see what it has, if it works 😀 It does have some weird connectors but if it spins some, i could get the specs of it.
