No idea what this is but it was a tenner and includes an HP 19" LCD monitor (not that I want that as I have one or two already!). It says P4 at the bottom but who knows!

Seller's only photo.... I just hope it has something exciting in it!

I picked this up today and it's...... as dull as dishwater 🙁

It's a P4 2.66GHz, 40GB Seagate drive, 52X LG CDROM drive, onboard everything, Intel motherboard, not even an AGP slot. Only slightly interesting thing is an extra PCI parallel port card, not sure why you'd need that! It's been wiped clean - no personal files or any interesting software even on it! It was last booted 29th Dec 2009 so it's sat on a shelf for over a decade untouched!

Oh well the case is nice and good condition, just filthy.

Apart from the P4 sign, there also was an inventory sticker on the front which also indicates "dull as dishwater", usually. But now we know that there are blue PCI parallel cards.
I'd assume, the motherboard has a first parallel port in the backplate? Chances are, the second was for some rather expensive legacy hardware like industrial machinery or plotter, special printer.

Think that case is called the chieftec dragon. Was really popular 20 years ago and sure is a quality case. Well worth that tenner on its own. Grey or white ones were much less common than black, silver or blue.
Also, is that µATX? Wouldn't have thought those existed, was such a tinkerer and enthusiast case.

Yeah I'm happy I got the case! IT has a Chieftec 230W PSU in it so it appears original. Oh and yeah just 3 PCI slots so it's micro ATX.

The PC has a couple of stickers saying it was 'Manufactured' by Epic Computers Ltd but I can't find much about them online.

So I found a few things today, like this powermac G3 compatible SCSI card and one of those odd PPGA non mmx Pentium 166 CPUs. It even runs at 200 without too much fuss.

Yeah, a Graphite colored CRT Studio Display. It ain’t my old 22inch screen, but I’ll take a Diamondtron that’s easier to lug any day.

Just won this on eBay, sorry if I beat any of you to it 😀

Not sure of the exact model, and not sure of my plans for it yet, but I'll certainly put in a CD ROM and a sound card at least. The BIOS photo appears to show it has 80MB RAM which is decent, so Windows 95 is probably destined for it... I could even try OS/2 Warp.

Seller's photos. Needs a good clean!

I love this little PC 😀 Here's a video on it https://youtu.be/vfwv21_oGi4

Decided to fill out my ISA Soundcards a bit with some non Creative models, got an Aztech Sound Galaxy Nova 16 and a SC-6000 2.21, both have OPL3 and could use a good clean. I also grabbed a PCI Permedia 2 Extreme from the same seller, not seen this model in a PCI card before and while it isn't exactly a powerful GPU it should be interesting to see how it runs via the PCI bus.

II think the Aztech card should be a good replacement for a SB16 and hopefully a lot quieter without the Midi bugs, also hope to add an ESS Audiodrive 1868 F as soon as I can find one that isn't a gimped version missing half the IC's or WT header.

It's a good display, I guess, but doesn't it bother you at all that it bears the mark of evil?

- Gold plated Terratec Vortex. They even bothered to put some metal shielding around the db15 connector and gold plate that.
- Always needed a quality 30 m mini-DIN cable. The use case is still a bit vague but I'm sure it will present itself.
- Jiggohertz Celerey. Not quite for free, so, is there a special thread around here for "most idiotic ebay packaging"?!?
That thing arrived in an envelope, naked inside some large bubble wrap. An item with 370 needles was packed in basically, balloons.
I hope it's fine ESD-wise and so are the pins, but really, that thing was one minor mechanical challenge away from a serious bad hair day. WTF?!?

I like jumpers.

Aztech sound cards are decent in DOS.

Unfortunately, they have mediocre Windows 9x drivers and the variant you got is sensitive to the computer speed. 🙁

No, not at all. I already have too many Macs and a IIGS

This socket 3 motherboard with 128MB FPM. (FPM only board)

Few months ago I bought a IBM DX2/66 with not a single pin in his place... (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-Aligned_Movement) 😀)

After 1+ hours I managed to get all the pins in place, and now I have a 486 with 128MB RAM...

Is all the memory cached on that board?

I have the same 21" CRT , a 17" Sony epd-220, and a 19" lg studio works 995 shadowmask. My original pc had the 17" lg studio works 775n but I'll take the 19". The 21" is more immersive in quake 3 arena but is a tad dim compared to the other two CRTs I own.

I think with 256K cache (I see 4x64K cache chips on the board) 64MB RAM are ideal.

I thought that, but hoped I was wrong 😀

Thought I'd pop up here and showcase what arrived today from Japan, at least the item that actually works out of the things I ordered - a nice, rare IBM ThinkPad S30. Screen was shot, with the classic vinegar syndrome starting, but I already had a replacement for my previous S30, which sadly is in much worse physical shape and also appears to be allergic to screen inverters. Haven't done much with this beyond swapping the screen and the HDD, and dumping a random W98 image from my ThinkPad 600E on it so far though!

Wow nice find! I was really tempted to buy one from someone downsizing their collection on the Thinkpads forum a couple of months ago, but have so far passed since I've got the Thinkpad 240Z and had the X20 / X31 back in the day - the styling / thinness of the S30 makes it so interesting though 😀
IT's odd too, that you've got one S30 that won't run the backlight, I read on an archived japanese thinkpad blog site that was a relatively common issue, one of the ones for sale recently had the same issue. I wonder what does that, since it's probably not the inverter that's broken?

Its all good, the Aztech card is bound for a DOS box that doesnt have Win9x on it !

I used to find them alright in Windows Sound System mode, aztech cards. But that period I wasn't relying on them for real windows gaming, which wasn't really, really a thing until late 9x. Mostly for "multimedia" stuff, using WSS, not stuff using directsound.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

The initialization routines for setting WSS mode in pure DOS (at least the ones with the AZT2316 chipset with SETMODE /MSS) was quite incomplete and it needed a third party utility to deal with that. Regardless, they work well with Windows 3.x.
