Hi,

i tryed to get tomb Raider 1 working with my voodoo 5500. I read that later voodoo cards use the rushPatch.
Well it works but only with resolution 640x480.
So how i get the "MegaMonster" voodoo 2 sli Resolution 1024x768 working with a voodoo 5500?
I use windows98SE, and the Directors Cut Edition with the Rush patch.
Anyone?

regards
Chris

This works only for Tomb Raider 2 and 3 by disabling the Z-buffer. Tomb Raider 1 is hard coded into 640x480 with 3dfx. Other options for the original Tomb Raider for 1024x768 include:

Power VR (practically unplayable at this resolution, DOS/Win9X)
Glidos (also works for GOG and Steam)
OpenLara (many different kinds of hardware)
Tomb Raider Automated Fix 1.2.1 (for GOG and Steam)

But i can remember playing tomb raider with a voodoo2 SLI on that 1024x768 resolution back in the days.
Was it voodoo2 exclusive with zbuffer?

Unfortunately, there's no Tomb Raider exclusive to the Voodoo2. There's one for the Voodoo Rush and the other for the Voodoo1. However, if you're not playing on either hardware, you'll also be missing some special effects like shadows on the original Tomb Raider. For Unfinished business, I believe the Rush patch still has the shadows, though, when played on newer 3dfx hardware.

At least the original Voodoo Graphics executable works with Voodoo2 cards after setting some environment variables which can be found on the V2-AUTO.INF file.

Not really, TR1 runs good on a PowerVR PCX2 in 1024x768 resolution. Played through to the last level.

It does look good. I must have had it running in a lousy configuration.

What cpu/gpu you use with the PCX2? Looks really good 👍🏻 And can i use a pcx2 with dos 6.22 or do i need a win for setup?

Thanks for the info, i run a elsa riva tnt2 agp with a amd k3+ @600MHz . Maybe give it a try when i found one for a ok price.. Looks like there no dos driver, so maybe i dont need one like a voodoo1/2 under dos.

What was the latest power vr exe for Tomb Raider? V2. 1.0?

Is the V5500 able to run Glide 1x and 2x games ? I always assumed that the newer Voodoo GPUs had issues with the older Glide API versions.

pretty good support, with patches and tweeks. Sometimes you just use another dll or you have a patch.

i bought now a pcx2 board. Will see how it perform and scale with my setup. I will also have some different GPUs to test it. I also see that 800x600 it can go up to 60fps what is really interesting.

I got today the Matrox 757-00 PCX2. First at all that chip got really hot..
So i decide to give the old board some cooling. What was a good choice i think, it runs now much cooler around 35°C.
Tests with the Riva TNT2 show its not compatible with the pcx2. Than i tryed an old Trio64 S3 2MB GPU and it works fine.
But with the S3 cant switch to 1024x768.. 800x600 is the max.
I also tested WIn98SE and pure DOS 6.22. Both work without problems. So running the board in dos setup is no problem.
I will try a rage 128 pro and some other cards next days.

You need to run this: Tombpcx2 uvbe
I'm not sure if you also need to press F8 as well. You can also set higher refresh rates, for example if you run "Uvconfig -e120" and then "Tombpcx2 uvbe" it will run in 120 Hz in some resolutions.

Thanks for the tip. But it was the 2MB RAM that the Trio64 cant run 1024x768. For testing i installed a V5500 and i can switch to 1024..
Runs pretty good, sometime the frames go down to 20fps but overall they over 30fps. On 800x600 its on 35-45fps what is pretty nice to play.
I will test a SIS 6326 and a Matrox G250 soon, because the voodoo musst be back in my win98 setup.
