I got an Intel Pentium PRO 200 from Ebay and it has a piece of silver metal...??
On top of it...

I attached a picture.

Can I take it off?
Do I want to take it off??

I tried to scratch it off with my fingernail.

This is my first post on this site.

Any help would be appreciated 😀

This is thermal TIM sheet, Just gently pick at one edge and tear this off just like you peel a sticker.

Cheers,

Or if you want a link that will be updated when new info is found, go to https://www.ultimateretro.net/en/motherboards/4633
They will appreciate if you can dump your BIOS, so they can add it, and provide the BIOS string that helps ID boards.

Would anyone be interested in seeing a bootup screen picture?
Maybe tomorrow? 😀

Bootup screen will be appreciated for UltimateRetro website, as will a dump of the BIOS

I would have been here earlier but I was watching a 100-minute expose on Babylon 5. ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FfKOubWE14 )

Welcome to the Pentium-Pro master race!

Ironically, those thermal pads often worked better than typical heat sink compound (of the time). Tolerances for heatsinks were very loose by today's standards. The pads were often better than goop until the pentium 3 /athalon era when they flipped the die to allow direct exposure.

I also want to echo @debs3759's request for a bios dump, boot images, and proper board pictures.

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

I recently bought the box set. Rather over packed, the box must be 3x the size it needs to be 😀

I would dump the bios on the NEC 5800 sever coffee machine I bought but not sure anyone would find a Pentium Pro server bios useful, though I might be wrong about that. (I do know its an Intel FX based board)
