Just drove my EV Phoenix to vegas on one charge with charge to spare! W00t! Drive to Vegas was free also because of being charged on solar. Drive back will be like $16. Never goin back to gas.

Well, still got the 1st Gen Explorer, but I had to total our Corolla this past week, frame damage. Some bendecho in a Silverado bashed it up 8 months ago and insurance and us have been in a fight with the other party for months now who kept changing their story about the accident and the whole thing was so fishy as the police would not let us get the plates, insurance info, or anything else. I suppose the kid that hit my wife was one of the cop's family and they were pulling some shit.

Really sucks, my wife loved that car. She had to say goodbye to it last week. Really tore her up as she bought it new right after we met and paid it off. Thankfully should be able to afford another one with the payout and just pay cash. Hopefully there will be enough after that leftover to put a dash cam on both of our vehicles. I'm planning to start recording clips of every moron in the area and posting them to my channel - plates totally visible. It seems since the pandemic, people can't drive for shit, and I've watched the decline in real time over the past 2 years as I've been working off-site the entire time (I work at a hospital).

Maybe, maybe not

Driving distribution is strange, a massive number of cars never drive more than 5 miles per day (I used to have the full specs, maybe I will dredge them up some day)
But the upper 10% of drivers drive close to 70% of the miles for everybody.
There is at least one car (crackhead) in the US in the official government data driving 1000 miles a day every day.
Because almost no one drives the average miles it means most American cars can drive most trips without quick charging.

This means 110 million cars could drive using the home outlet 100% of the time and that number increases by 50% if you take out annual or bi annual trips.

My point is that a massive number of vehicles can be electric with minimal infrastructure beyond 110vac outlets, it’s the upper 30% that would likely need to stay gas or something else.

I wouldn't have guessed that most trips were that short. Among the elderly, sure. This is what lead me to believe a certain statistic was particularly misleading. You know the one that they used to use to try and scare people into wearing their seatbelt, even if they were just going down the road. After all most accidents occur within a mile of someone's residence. Well if you're 90, can't see, and never drive more then a 1/4 mile to the post office, it's unlikely you'll get into an accident 10 miles from home. But it would be wrong to blame it all on the elderly. Now I don't havento 😀

You'd be surprised how many trips don't need a car. And some of those trips are made LONGER by car.

For example, I live behind a shopping center. By car, my trip takes about 15-20 minutes to get to the same stores that I can get to in 5-10 minutes on foot, or less by bike. It's amazing how much faster close-by things become once you are not restricted to keeping a multi-thousand pound block of steel on some blacktop to get there. A few times doing errands on foot, I was in and out so fast my wife asked "are you going to the store" when I got back 🤣.

The only excuse is when you have a lot of things to buy that you can't carry home. I've been stupid enough to make that mistake a few times.

A wheeled shopping basket gets around that somewhat - old school.

+1 for walking or hopping on a pushbike, so much easier than driving or public transport. I live in an older suburb so the streets were designed for a few tiny cars - now that cars are huge and everyone has one it's excruciating to drive anywhere. Quick trips to pick up the kids from school or grab some milk are stop/start rage fests.

You should live in NJ (advice no one should heed). They recently banned single use plastic bags. Now you have to bring scads of bags to house your goods. At least you would't have to worry about bags ripping while hoofing home. Unless your bags are old.
