While testing tape stuff in the PIII machine, in the IBM PS/ValuePoint I installed 4x256K DRAM chips.
So now I have a full 1 MB video ram for the embedded ET4000/W32 (originally 512K only).

Now I can enjoy Win311 at 800x600 @ 16 bit!
Or 1024x768 @ 8 bit.

EDIT: Yes, the motherboard is a bit dirty!

Modified a Hama K210 by replacing its USB cable to PS/2. Knowing the Chinese who did the PCB and that they're awfully cheap, it was no surprise that the keyboard worked fine after the conversion.

I found someone offering a super clean majestic beige tower and Mitsubishi 17 inch CRT (which is confirmed working) for super cheap, hoping to pick it up tomorrow!
Motherboard is an Asus A7V which I haven't heard too many great things about. I'm likely just going to swap it out with the Socket 370 board I already have anyway.

I looked up how much similar parts go for on eBay and I'm gonna be saving SO MUCH MONEY I'm kinda freaking out 🤣

If you like it put a fan on it...

I upgraded my P3 gaming machine and placed an 8cm Akasa fan on my graphics card, to cool it down a little bit.

Nah, it's worth it to me 😀 It also gave a good reason to use the Quick 861DA hot air station and in the end, it should result in a PCB design that others can use to repair the CT1350B PCBs

You got it wrong because I wrote it badly, I meant repairing the ISA slot. Too damaged to make the effort.
Salvaging components is the only thing to do.

I've seen other posts with cards damaged for gold recovery. As a collector it always hurts...

This is something I've been wanting to do for a while tbh, there's no shared design for the CT1350 and I wanted to make one. It also gives me a low stakes way to learn KiCAD's UI since I could sorta use Eagle but I got locked out of the useful version of that - once I'm free from work, my version of a GuS-PnP can start again in KiCAD.
I scanned in the PCB, did some measuring, vectorised the picture to get it into KiCAD and have been placing components following the scan locations. I'm quite happy with how this is coming along now 😀

Wow, this is so cool.. If you also post a BOM with that I might try my hand at building one, actually.

Well yes this mod will work, as the Voodoo III 3K have bigh heatsink... But 2K and Voodoo V 5500 both have shitty smal heatsinks, and there is needed more radical solution in order to fix these nasty high temperatures from inadequate "cooling" solution... For the other Voodoo cards some bigger heatsink and fan will be needed...

IMO V3 2k heatsinks do better than 3k heatsinks, they look bigger but they're spread out shallow fins, I think the actual area is less.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

You can get away with a significantly smaller heatsink if you put a fan on it.

The giant aluminum sink on the Voodoo 3 looks cool, with its fancy brass push pins. But it's terrible for cooling.

Well both Voodoo III 2K/3K without fan suck it... But the one is interesting for me is Voodoo V 5.5K why the actual FK does that card get hot AF, no matter the ehatsinks are smalker then what is on V3 2K, but it have fans, and yet it still is burning fingers...... And from my testing Voodoo II is also stove and Voodoo I did also get hot...

I spent the better part of like four house digging in to my Apple Extended Keyboard II, which has been in internally rough shape since I bought it. It's taken so long to start, and taken a while to do, because you have to disassemble each switch to get the dust out of them, and they can be picky little boxes when it comes to popping the top off. I only have the A-" row and the Z-? rows left to do, and it is feeling comparatively amazing. Not as good as my Model M, but pretty damn good.

I suppose in those times the cooling system choice costs was a variable to consider in the project for the company and most cards imho went for cheap solutions considering the amount of different configs, case, conditions those cards would have worked into.
The V3 2K heatsink attached to a plastic BGA Avenger chip imho is not enough but probably make more contact than the 3K model which I imagine might improve with a clean polished heatsink surface and an high end thermal paste. The different clock probably didn't help too. I wonder how the 3500 TV version worked with a passive cooler and the heatsink temperature.

We're all adding fans to this Voodoo3 😆
I did it in another way.

I explored the previously mentioned OTDR. Interesting device, would be a good choice of oddware for Clint.
It's very restricted though, which is normal for these kinds of devices and probably a clean install of Windows would open it up.
The BIOS is also password locked. I don't know if it's baked in, I didn't find it in the manual.

It probably haven't been turned on for 5+ years and the battery still held charge and the system time was accurate. Very impressive.
But the floppy drive is faulty.

Interesting way of using the fan i use it the same way, but on my main system on the TitaniumHD to cool the card, cuz the chip is 3Dfx like stove...
These Voodoo II are in SLI but nVIDIA way, cuz 3Dfx was with flat IDE cable, while nVIDIA is with PCB... So SLI bridge nVIDIA style there !!
Really like the touch on the I/O plate on the Voodoo cards very well done... OverKILLLLLLL PSU i see...

That a great little machine there. I love the look of those rugged cases. Do you have the adapters to still use it as a OTDR?

"I" don't. My workplace does. It has it's carry bag and everything it needs to be used as intended in it.
It probably won't see any action anymore. I've been 4 years at the company and we never used it. We have a much more modern one. Which is not PC based.

The 512KB SOJ ICs (5 of them were cheaper than 2 locally!) turned up much earlier than expected from China (just 2 weeks) so I have upgraded the onboard S3 Trio64 graphics to 2MB - I can now use 16 or 32 bit colour at resolutions over 640x480! And Final Reality now runs on the Matrox m3d 😀

Nice memory upgrade... I want to find some cheap chips myself to upgrade nVIDIA NV1 cards i have and for some others, but is rare here... Is this system IBM PC 365 or is other model, as the case is the same.. If is with Pentium Pro what is the set up, also if you are runing it in dual PentiumPro will be nice if you can show off the VRM module, as i dont know how does look in order to find one...
