No. Even with the real mode patch (which is a hack) the config menu doesn't work properly, being unable to load EMM386 and lastly HIMEM.SYS can't be unloaded as it is integrated into IO.SYS.

When ME was released, I know I had done a "real mode" hack. Other than being annoying to get working properly, I don't remember having any real issues with it. But that was a really, really long time ago.
