Dear Vogons,

I have got infamous PcChips M571 1.1 socket 7 motherboard. The board works just fine except the primary IDE channel. The bord either can ´t detect the drive or detects the drive - right size and parameters but shows corrupted drive name on the post screen and the drive is not working correctly. (the name string is sometimes corrupted differently) You can format it but it is not working after next boot, you cant boot the drive etc. Just not working.
- I tried to reflow the IDE header, after that I intalled a completelly new IDE header.
- I tried to flash differt bios
- tried several cables, drives, cpus, rams..
Have the board for a long time - tried many times with different setup.
I have checked the all the traces - seems to be ok, mesured resistance to- compared to the working secondary IDE (in one case there was a difference) but don ´t know if it has any meaning.
Do you think the chipset BGA is demaged?
It is possible a capacitor is doing that?

Any help will be appreciated - it is not I must have the board but it is a challnage and it is anoying. You know...🫣
