How do I know if I am hooking up the case connectors to a motherboard correctly

I have been working on connecting case parts like lights to my motherboard but I am unsure if I am hooking them up properly. The manual for the case tells me to "always connect the colored wire to the pin 1 and the black wire to ground". I am unsure which is which because A . Some cables are white for ground instead of black and B. I do not understand which pin is ground and which is something else. I am genuinly worried about destroying something because I hooked something up the wrong way. I have attached a picture of the motherboard case pin header if that makes what I'm saying more understandable. Any info would help. Thank you!

Can you attach a higher resolution picture? It is impossible to distinguish anything in the one you posted.

Anyway, hooking up the front panel LEDs in the wrong orientation won't destroy anything, they just won't light up . Usually the colored wire goes to the pin labeled '+' or '1' on the motherboard and the white/black wire connects to '-' or 'GND'.

Buttons (such as reset, power) can be connected in any orientation.

Messing up the orientation of the front panel LED connectors is part of every PC builder's life.

Thank you, this information was not made clear with the manuals that I have (also now I don't have to worry about breaking something).
