This has been on my mind for some time,

My goal is to eventually get around to not only making a socket 370 tweaker, but also to eventually Build a dual 370 to use it in. Until that day comes though I will have this thread to gather requests and info on possible mods. once all the information is compiled and motivation is found I will begin with alphas. so this is just the first step in a long process.

there are a few possible variants that this may take the form of.

-a shim

-a interposer

-a slocket

-a back of motherboard adapter

Feel free to comment with, requests, suggestions.

we can also talk about slot 1 mods and socket 8 mods they may be relevant as the platforms are similar. Eventually those may get their own tweakers also.

some of the described mods require severing the connection between the processor and motherboard. so it seems that a interposer or a t least cutting the cpu pins will be required. bummer.

Desired features list:
-pwrgood bridge switch
-interrupt the two pins DYN_OE, and RESET2# (these prevent tualatin from working on older mobos)
-Interrupt and intercept the Vid pins, give switches for them to be pulled to VSS in order to manually select desired voltages.

Yeah, I'm thinking this needs to be a interposer or/and a slocket. many of us don't want to cut our cpu pins, take apart our sockets, or damage our motherboards.

I'm kinda thinking maybe a SMD design with a actual socket. if so, you'll have to bake it and use solder paste. (can a socket go in the oven?)

anyone have a line on LIF or interstitial sockets for this?

one possible solution is to use a sacrificial cpu to harvest pins from.

I could make a pcb that you push onto the donor cpu. heat it up then pull all the pins off as they are. then put the tweaker on it and melt them down. But that's obviously some highly skilled work.

then the socket could be smd soldered to the top..

it's possible, but I hate this design. too much to go wrong, too hard to build. need a better solution.

I looked around for LIF sockets but for some reason don't see any. it may be possible to make it out of rows of LIF pins though

I see that they did exist at some point:

this seems like a good solution to the problem. push them onto a cpu. put into tweaker and solder them down.

The pin, top sockets, and lead lengths look like they will work. Also, being in rows may help when soldering (one row at a time).

But those thingy's go for 5 bucks a piece ?..... can't you better buy complete sockets, like this:
https://www.baypatients.space/archive/1pc-518 … nktllsrmnq.html

Well, I was looking for one of those but couldn’t find one for sale in my searches. That doesn’t appear to be the correct layout for socket 370 btw.

Each one would need two. Also I need to get one or find a datasheet for it to confirm the pin and socket tolerances.

The photo's on that site are skewed, you can see the real dimensions here:

That data sheet won’t load on my phone atm

I took a third look at the link. I see now that it is indeed equal, but skewed.

PGA132 rotator boards

depending on how this^ thread goes I believe I will probably use the methods figured out here to design the socket 370 tweaker.

it seems like a smd setup is most likely.
