Not tested, but how can i use the patch if the Windows ins't installed?
These phase is for drivers

Please consider reading the manual (helpfully named manual.txt) that is included with the patch .
If you decide to do so, the instructions provided under the heading named "NEW WINDOWS INSTALLATIONS" on line 299 should answer your question .

EDIT : A possible alternative to patching would be to use himemx instead of himem.sys and limit XMS memory to 512MB .

it seems to be seen as a challenge to get win98 onto new hardware, I understand it as a fun exercise some people do for tinkering purposes but why wouldn't we just use a VM, compatibility tools or similar in most cases?

"If you can reduce the amount of RAM to 512MB or less, you can install
Windows normally, run the PATCHMEM Patch Program, then restore the additional
RAM.

If you need to Install Windows in a system with more than 512MB of RAM
present, you can do so as follows:

1. Place the Patch Program on a DOS Floppy Disk or on a Formatted Partition.
2. Perform the Windows installation until the FIRST reboot.
Do not leave the Computer unattended in case Windows reboots without
prompting.
3. Reboot and holds the CTRL key to get the Windows Startup Menu.
NOTE: If Windows starts without the Startup Menu, it may crash. If so,
press RESET and wait for the Windows Startup Menu. You may need
to turn Power back on if it shuts off.
4. Select the "Command prompt only" option and press ENTER.
5. Run the WININIT Command.
6. Go to the Floppy Disk or Partition where the PATCHMEM Program is located.
7. Run the PATCHMEM Program.
8. Remove the Floppy Disk if present.
9. Press the Reset Button or CTRL-ALT-DEL.
10. Continue the Windows Installation."
from PATCHMEM - Win9x patch to use up to 4GB of RAM: https://archive.org/details/PATCHMEM
the 5 step seems that just update something, that i don't understand.. then i run the patch and works like a charm 😉
i need ask 3 things:
1 - why i must add '/pi' on setup command DOS?(or i will get an error);
2 - can i add these patch on setup?
3 - can i add drivers on setup too?

i need the ms-dos midi driver... can anyone advice me?

The ICH6 southbridge to which the AC97 codec is connected has no DOS game compatibility at all .

This machine does not a have a Pentium 3 CPU, it has a Pentium 4 Pentium M (as confirmed by OP) CPU . The ICH6 variants were used only in Pentium 4 and Pentium M (and Celeron derivatives) based systems .

Please share some more details about the system you are using.

- What brand/model is the motherboard (or brand/model of laptop) ?
- Do you have a third party sound card installed (connected through either ISA, PCI, PCMCIA, CARDBUS or parallel port) ?
- When you say "Prince of Persia 1 and 2 works fine." do you mean with sound ? And, if so, is it possible the sound you are hearing is from these games' PC speaker support ?
- For Wolfenstein 3D, it may be some kind of incompatibility like the one described here Wolf 3D black screen no sound D: . Knowing what system you are running this on would help . What is the video card in the system ?

Thank you for that info .
This systems does not have any integrated ability to support any DOS era audio standards, except PC speaker, under actual real-mode DOS .
However, if running DOS games under Windows 98 with a WDM driver for the integrated sound card, Sound Blaster Pro emulation (wave/PCM only, no OPL3/FM/MIDI) will be available to DOS games.

"- Do you have a third party sound card installed (connected through either ISA, PCI, PCMCIA, CARDBUS or parallel port) ?"
no... just on motherboard(laptop).
"- When you say "Prince of Persia 1 and 2 works fine." do you mean with sound ? And, if so, is it possible the sound you are hearing is from these games' PC speaker support ?"
i have background and effects audio... seems not be speaker... because isn't so noisy.
"- For Wolfenstein 3D, are you trying to run it under real-mode DOS or under Windows ?"
seems that both ways i get the black screen....

Peter: 'Cpuspd20a' is 1 program for control the CPU speed?

yes most motherboards are supported, check the tool here on vogons its great to disable l1 cache for dx33/66 expierience and throttle down the cpu. Its a runtime program, on restart evrything gets back to normal.
