Photos not videos. I can't really put a screenshot up here haha! All from about 20-22 years ago so no huge files...

Been pretty busy with other things so the only hardware I bought since June were a bunch of drives and a CPU (which I consider a good thing as I don't want to buy more stuff that I'll never use - unless I can't resist 😀 ).

The drives are untested but unfortunately the LS120 has a physical damage with the mechanism that holds the disk. I think it should lower itself as soon as a disk is inserted. Instead it's constantly 'down'. Too bad but 37E shipped for all drives was worth a try. Maybe it can be repaired - if I ever find the time for that.
At least the CPU works. It's a Pentium 2 400 with unlocked multiplier (up to 4). Was not exactly cheap for 27E but that was one thing I still wanted to have.

Nice with a 400 unlocked. That must be the fastest unlocked PII I've seen ... Have you confirmed it? Seems legit based on the manufacturing date ...

[Edit] seems it's not the only unlocked 400 around. And the datecode of week 29 in 1998 looks like it's one of the latest according to this thread List of UNLOCKED Pentium II CPUs - A Quick Glance

Bought a working ZIp 100 USB for 35€.
Price is fair I guess.

🤣. yeah, i just bought a set of 40 or so 'used' 3.5 diskettes which came with a nice container for cheap. A few had some guys most pertinent information in them (name/ address /SSN / employment history) from the mid-90s. Damn guy also write protected them haha

Yes, that is probably the last one (except from engineering samples). The Pentium 2 450 was released in the 35th week of 1998, so I assume all of them were built with locked multiplier. But I don't really know anything about that. It's hard to find any information on the web about this topic.

I only did some quick tests with mine: it passed the Doom and Quake benchmarks even at 117x4 (468 Mhz). With 124x4 (496 Mhz) it booted but crashed when starting any program. I think that's pretty good for passive cooling and stock voltage. I didn't want to stress it too much more after I fried a Coppermine-Celeron 1100 last year because of a broken cooler.

I've seen the Vogon's thread you mentioned. In fact when I saw the unlocked P2-400 there I remembered that I still hadn't found one. So I went to ebay and there it was! 😀 (It was cheap but half of the price I paid were shipping costs)

I found this beauty on the bay for a decent price and originally I bought it without actually looking at the pictures fully thinking it was just the case, finding nice older ATX cases is difficult here in OZ.

But nope its an entire box minus the HDD, comes with a Zip Drive, two optical drives, a 2400XP with 1gig of ram on a Asus A7V8X, the board looks like it has at least two bulging caps which will be the reason it doesnt boot every time. Not sure if I will bother recapping as I have a Abit NF7 that I can use for Athlon XP. No idea what the GPU is but it looks to only have DSUB and svideo, I like a surprise so im cool with not knowing.

Originally got it just for the case and Zip Drive so the rest is a bonus ...then I looked deeper and realized it has a PCI SCSI card in it which makes this an even nicer score. (Its an Adaptec AHA-2940U)

Right now I'm thinking of throwing the NF7 in there with the 3200+ and making a nice AMD XP box.

If it is a later version it supports FSB333 only when specified, 266 was the main fsb model.
I remember other models that just upgraded the southbridge. Was wild back then.

Would be a nice board for Geode NX or Athlon Thunderbird.
Check if RTC works after complete poweroff (cable out of PSU). I have 2 Asus MBOs from that period that don't keep time and it's not the battery.

You can put a Barton in it. 333 vs 400 isn't really that much of a difference. 3200+ costs a lot even today.

Yup Unlocked 3200+ Bartons cost even more heh I happen to have one, but this board will be put on the repair shelf till I have time to find replacement caps for it and sus out if it has any other issues.

Back int he day I had a 2400XP Athlon system it would be nice to find a use for the 2400+ in this board.

Back int he day I had a 2400XP Athlon system it would be nice to find a use for the 2400+ in this board.

A friend used to rip dvds with an Athlon 500, then 700. When he got an XP 2200+, difference was abysmal. Early 2000's.

That's hardly believable. Although I would agree it was still slow.

I bought this nearly full-length Toshiba DVD decoder. One of the first; this thing was over $1300 new - now less than $20 w/shipping. It works and looks pretty good connected to a S3 Virge or ATI Rage card. It uses the Windows DVD player.

The cable I had to buy separately; it cost about half as much as the card itself (minus shipping).
