I would really like to hear the music with this game. I have WinXP and Soundblaster Audigy. I tried changing to the roland or general midi in the settings and also updating using the Roland patch from lucasarts as someone suggested but it caused the game to not even launch. I received a charbit error. I also went and tried SCUMM as someone suggested and that does not come accross as being dummy friendly. It implied that my current saved games would not work, another concern. So I need help with either getting my music to work with VDM (preferred) or someone telling me exactly what the steps are to get the scumm utility up and running with WINXP and an Audigy. Appreciate any help I can get.

thanks

Have you tried looking at this website http://www.scummvm.org/ ?
I dont know much about SCUMM or getting it to work on new pcs, but I have heard that this program has allowed many people to get such games running on the newer OS's.

Good lord. ScummVM is rediculously simple. There's even a front-end for it. Just start a new game if youneed to. It's worth it with 2xSaI graphics mode.

Yes, it’s my fault.

I finally managed to get the music working on my computer
by downloading the upgrade.exe file from LucasArts:
http://support.lucasarts.com/patches/dott.htm … 0Sound%20Update
by this I mean the Roland upgrade for the floppy disks version (but you may have a different version of the game).
I ran it on the game directory and then I changed the game configuration to use Roland music (and of course, I ran VDMSound to launch) and it worked.

Hope it helps you as well
Ron

Here. Let me reiterate.

I tried changing to the roland or general midi in the settings and also updating using the Roland patch from lucasarts as someone suggested but it caused the game to not even launch. I received a charbit error.

But for god's sake, use ScummVM! If you're too afraid, get "ScummVM Quick and Easy" which is a frontend for ScummVM.

Yes, it’s my fault.

For you? Presuming that you are same "Unregistered" that started this thread and you are running XP...That would be:

ScummVM Windows Installer

You could also try Win32 Daily Snapshot, but it's likely to be less stable.

For quick'n'easy, head on over to http://quick.mixnmojo.com/ and get the ScummVM Quick & Easy.

With SCUMM game works too choppy, with VDMS - without music.
(System: XP, Card: SB Live)

Will you please give us some better specs on your system? The reason SCUMMVM doesn't work well could easily be because your system is too slow.

Yes, it’s my fault.

OK, it is me with XP system on Athlon XP 1,67; 640 RAM; SB Live!.

This problem I have is following...

DOSbox:
All games are running with all the sound, but the sound is choppy - not music, but speech (I`ve tryed without music).

ScummVM:
The same prob as before - all SCUMM games are running fine, but with choppy speech.

VDMS:
Some games are working just fine, but all the SCUMM games sometimes stop during speech, I figuered out that this is some buffer prob... Also, I have found one solution for this problem - saving the game and loading just saved one - dialogue will continue just fine... But this is too distracting.

AND with VDMS thing I can`t run my SCUMM games with Adlib music (but I want to), only with Midi or Roland.
