Holger Bredel has produced some Soundfonts designed to enhance the music in Descent, Descent II and other DOS games:

He has posted some examples for comparison between the default Creative Soundfont and his Soundfont as well.

I think, the improved version and the standard version don't really sound that different from each other.

Besides compared to a Yamaha DB50XG or Roland SC-55, Creative stuff just sounds like a joke.

Hahaha.. talk about irony, I was trying to find the link of sound card comparisons, and when I found it, I realized it was the same site that you worked on Locutus and posted on Quest.... 🤣

I actually prefer opl FM synthesis of the soundblaster over db50xg midi in descent. Not too sure about descent 2 though, as I don't play it that much.

descent's midi was good in opl3, but in descent 2 i always preferred the redbook score
