What are the files in this folder used for and is it safe to delete this folder to reclaim disk space once everything has been setup?

IIRC it's either where Scanreg backups go (which may be created automatically on clean shutdowns?) or the backup for the "return to previous operating system" (in which case it will appear in disk cleanup) 😀
