Yes it does for sure ! I've seen a lot of people collect big box games and store them spine out . Makes it hard to see what you really own.I feel having them face out gives me more of a reminder of going to my local electronics store and to buy a game. Seeing the cover art is a bonus. Some of the big boxes are stacked a few games deep so I will just rearrange them if I want to see something different 🤣.

The south park game is actually pretty good ! Childhood game for me. It's an easy play. Only seems to work well on older hardware. Not a problem as I have 3 different voodoo rigs I can swap out to have some fun lan party action in multi player mode

Bit of a tidy up yesterday so took advantage and grabbed a few pics of our setup for roughly the last 12 months.

Wife gets the side of the room , the desk with the Mac is hers, My side is a little more...cluttered.

My desk has a work hand me down HP 840 G4 which is what I use when working from home attached to all 3 screens via a docking station it shares with my "personal" HP 840 G2
3 Elite Display E201 monitors, chosen due to their inputs. All 3 VGA's go to KVM's, DVI's go direct to certain PC's as a 2nd monitor, 2 DP's go direct to the docking station.
Dell Ultrascan 14" CRT also attached to a KVM, if I flip up the screen in front I can see the CRT ok but far from ideal. This takes care of anything below 800x600 which the modern screens struggle with.
All hooked upto the Logitech Z5500 speakers via a 3.5mm cable manually moved between PC's or optic switch box for the few PC's that support it.

Slot A/ 3dFX Banchee 9x PC. 2nd HP xw8600 -Future project. Duel PPro NT3.51 "server"

Dell Slot1 1Ghz, GF4 ti4600+ Voodoo 3 2000 PCI, Win9x. Dell S370, Matrox Mystique parts build. Dell T5500 Duel CPU Win7 Game PC.
Bottom Shelf
Mac G4 with OS9 and 10. HP xw8600, Duel CPU, x2 Radeon HD 4890 in crossfire, WinXP. HP XW6200 Duel CPU Win2k Server build.
Between the "rack" and wall top to bottom
LGA775, GF GTX590 Main XP rig. S478 GF6800 Ultra Win98/XP build. Proliant 1600 Duel P3 NT4 server.

Opposite the rack is storage of stuff I'd prefur with me rather then the storage unit as well as 2 rack servers.

Hidden in the corner is a Dell Poweredge upgraded to Max CPU's and Ram running Win2k and storage for "retro files"
Under the printer is a Poweredge R210 running Win 2003 with more important files, music, photos, etc

This is the first time I've used the shelf setup, in the last house I would have 1 row of PC's sitting onto of another. This is working well and makes cable tracking slightly easier.
Each shelf has a Powerstrip, although these do come off 2 main strips that plug into the wall. Not great but as its rare then more then 3 PC's will be turned on at once I doubt I'll overload anything.
Network is a bit of a mess with the switch sitting onto of the 2 P3 Dells cables can fall down and get tangled and disappear out of reach. Long term would be nice to have something like a patch panel running along the side.

All the different screens and inputs gets confusing thats why I've had t put labels on telling me which KVM the screen is attached to and whats attached to that KVM

My favourite spot for fall DOS gaming is right under this Ohio Buckeye, especially on a holiday morning like today. I always get a kind of neat feeling bringing out a mug of cocoa & playing DOS games out here as the sun rises. This morning, the tree happened to shed half its weight; the golden leaves gently landing on me, my keyboard, and the laptop screen just made playing The Legend of Kyrandia an almost surreal experience!

So glad to see people preserving SGI systems. My wife worked on SGI systems throughout the 1990s when she was in animation/film school. She had a good laugh one time when they tried to convince students to buy SGI workstations for 8K a pop so they could work from home. Like students can afford that on top of student loans. We're so spoiled nowadays with cheap multi core systems that run rings around those systems.

That OS Desktop on the SGI looks suspiciously similar to OS/2 Warp 4..

There's quite a large community that still runs these system! 😀

The reasonably high cost of a decent SGI system at the present time probably makes it quite difficult of most to get into playing around with them! (Which is a great pity, as they're incredibly interesting!)

Here's the Infinite Reality 3 graphics system that I pulled from this Onyx2 before installing the Infinite Reality 4 system (This is this systems old "graphics card"!!!!)

The operating systems SGI's version of the unix v operating system called IRIX!

It's one of the most solid OS's that I've used!

Its only current weak-point in my opinion is that there isn't an up to date web browser available for it!

This is a work in progress. The whole rack is dedicated to this hobby, but this is the shelf that I am ready to show. There are three IBM-compatibles, one IBM, one Sound Canvas 88-series, and a KVM below.

Although it's loud, the Onyx 2 isn't ridiculously loud (it has more of a low frequency sound, which makes it kind of bearable), My SunFire V880Z is louder and my SunFire X4600 is ridiculously loud. However don't waste your time installing a sound card into any of these systems, as they're all just too loud!!!

More than the sound is the amount of heat they generate! The Onyx 2 literally heats up the floor around it!!! All three of these systems are in the multi kilowatt power range!!!

It would be interesting to hear a recording of the room with a microphone on the center, even if it can't do it justice. I try very hard with my personal builds to keep them as silent as possible. This would be a fun juxtaposition of that.

As a matter of interest, here are some pics of the V880Z (Z bing for ZULU - the machines graphics card - the XVR-4000 )

Here are some pics of the XVR-4000, the largest slot-able GPU I've ever laid eyes on! (The Infinite Reality 4 Graphics system is obviously much larger, but you can't really call it a graphics card!)

It's simply impossible to silence a system such as this!!!!

Just bear in mind that this port of Quake that I run in the video is not at all optimised for this hardware, and therefore doesn't in any way display this GPU's potential!

The GPU alone cost a whopping $35000 back in 2003!

This video shows a DNA strand being rendered in realtime in VMD on a Sun Fire V880 equipped with an XVR-4000. (This GPU was a realtime renderer designed to have high colour precision and incredibly good antialiasing and was predominantly focused on the rendering of spheres for molecular modelling )

That's amazing. I love vintage Sun computers, as I have a personal fondness for Unix systems (as in, I actually know how to use them!)

It's particularly interesting to see such heavy graphical silicon. I wonder if they can be utilized by normal OpenGL, or if they require a more complex software configuration to get going.
