Yeah, interesting board. I will test it over the weekend. This guy was a supplier of medical tech, I don't think he was going "economic" route with the computer stuff (and this particular model of the motherboard was used in some medical equipment). But to be honest I like the Model Ms the most. It's cool they came with these colored buttons too.

If it is just a basic SB 16 manual then no need as they are common

Board FRU is 41G3985, according to IBM data it was a PS/2 Model 70 - 061 or 121.

Curbside find: a Dell Vostro 420. A Q8300 quad core, three gigs of DDR2 6400, and a dead hard drive. I blew out the dust and stuck a spare SSD and a GTS 250 in it and it works fine. An added "Bonus" - the REO Speedwagon greatest hits CD in the drive. Sadly, I was never really a fan, though they were definitely a very popular band when I was a teen.

I was playing Half-Life 2 on it today. My XP overkill system has an HD 7850 in it, but no matter what driver I try there are some graphics oddities in dark areas; no such problem with this combination. And since it was a Vista system, Dell knew to provide drivers for XP as well which made it easy.

I don't believe it's from 1982 specifically, but it is a genuine IBM CGA card. This page has lots of info about the variations of this card.

It seems to be the slightly newer model since it has an extra support on the bracket and the bracket isn't black. The part number in the lower left doesn't appear to be a year, despite them having numbering like 1981, 1982 etc. The PCB color apparently isn't an indicator of age either.

Either way, that's very cool! A similar card came in my PC 5150 when I got it.

I'd guesstimate late 84 production going by chip date codes. Nice find.

I've never thought to actually look at those codes on chips, is that what they are? I'm thinking 8422B is 1984, week 22, SI8428 is 1984, week 28... is that how it works?

Sort of like the 8" floppy disks, bet he never heard of them/knew anything about them either, and he is not naive or lacking in technical knowledge (or maybe he is 🤣) but some things from the past just never got the attention they deserved...

Much like an IBM 5150. Some Laser Players command a very high price, just like some vintage computers. But Generally both are somewhat useless compared to a few years later counter parts.. ;p
