This ties in to a discussion a while back in this thread Re: Technological critique

So things are apparently getting worse, not better.

I hope inexpensive USB-C cable testers (for type, testing conformity to bandwidth specs would probably be too complex) are or will be a thing soon .

My hope is being to get something to type ID USB-C cables for under 50$ , eventually.

Maybe lsusb will get that functionality (in part at least ) eventually.

I'm fairly certain that would only work with cables that actually identify themselves... which makes the whole usbc ballgame just a little bit more frustrating.
I hope lsusb gets that functionality, but if it's anything like network virtual cable testing capabilities, which plenty of nics have, it's definitely going to be a long wait, or an annoying ride where some chispets are supported, others are not, some lack features etc... argh !

Right to repair is fundamental. You own it, you're allowed to fix it.
