Hello guys.
I have an old laptop with P3 933 Mhz onboard which i want to use for old dos games and early win98. It called Amicus 3600.
It has integrated video ( Trident Cyberblade-i1) in chipset . Everest detects something like VIA VT8601 Apollo ProMedia / VT8601A Apollo PLE133.
Depending on it go to VIA site to get video driver.
I take it from this link : http://download.viatech.com/DriverDownloadSubmitAjaxSvl
It's Legacy WHQL KPLE drivers Dated: 03-Jun-2002 Ver. 3124
If i try to instal it setup stops with message "Setup was unable to complete the installation. Check the progress log in your Windows directory for more details."
After i go to log file . There were such strings :

Spoiler

Windows XP automaticaly install all the drivers. But i repeat i wish use the Windows 98SE.

Hi,

I would try just to change 8500 to 8520 in this lines of file kplew9x.inf (in folder D:\DISTR\VIAVIDEO\KPLE-W~1\DRIVER\)
(or just run "search and replace" command in your text editor that replaces 8500 to 8520 in the whole file):

[Mfg]
%PCI\VEN_1023&DEV_8500.DeviceDesc%=VIA.Install,PCI\VEN_1023&DEV_8500

Mfg="VIA Technologies, Inc."
PCI\VEN_1023&DEV_8500.DeviceDesc="VIA Tech VT8361/VT8601 Graphics Controller"

so you will have:

[Mfg]
%PCI\VEN_1023&DEV_8520.DeviceDesc%=VIA.Install,PCI\VEN_1023&DEV_8520

Mfg="VIA Technologies, Inc."
PCI\VEN_1023&DEV_8520.DeviceDesc="VIA Tech VT8361/VT8601 Graphics Controller"

and start setup again (run SETUP.EXE in folder D:\DISTR\VIAVIDEO\KPLE-W~1\DRIVER\)

P.S. Mentioning the text editor I meant not MS Word but rather notepad or notepad++ or akelpad or something embedded into FAR or other file managers

My thanks.
This partially helped =)
Now in my computer i have "VIA Tech VT8361/VT5601 Graphics Controller".
If i try to adjust 16 bit color it goes to restart ... in restart laptop freezes in the process with black screen. So it requires a forced restart. After forced restart i get a message:

Spoiler

Error in display settings. The video adapter type is incorrect, or the current settings do not match the capabilities of the hardware.

It was worth to try that hack but the result is bad. This driver isn't compatible and we should search another

P.S. It's funny that I have all but VEN_1023&DEV_8520

VEN_1023&DEV_8620 == "Trident CyberBlade Ai1 AGP (22)"
VEN_1023&DEV_8420 == "Trident CyberBlade i7 AGP (12)"

P.P.S. I think it should be compatible link to download and another place to download
It's supposed for some Compaq laptop. Don't forget to remove the former incompatible driver before installation this one!

[Mfg]
%String1%=Trident.Install,PCI\VEN_1023&DEV_8520&SUBSYS_B16E0E11&REV_6A
%String1%=Trident.Install,PCI\VEN_1023&DEV_8520&SUBSYS_B16E0E11&REV_6B

VEN_1023&DEV_8520 == "Trident CyberBlade i1 AGP (51)"

Thanks for link i try it some later..
Quite strange situation. Judging by the sticker with the serial code, the native operating system for this laptop was WinME which didn't go far from Win98SE.
Searching by Ven/Dev code gives nothing except WinXP drivers. (
There are old discussion at Russian forum about Apollo133PLE and memory low read/write speed with some noname desktop motherboard.
There i found a mention that owners has issues with video driver installation. So he forced pull drivers for Win95 in some directories.
But it doesn't say exactly how. :'(

If the driver installation fails then try to edit *.inf file removing in either of two lines a chunk "&SUBSYS_B16E0E11&.... "
It will expand range of devices for the driver. So you will get something like

String1%=Trident.Install,PCI\VEN_1023&DEV_8520

I mean that sp16985.exe driver-file is just a self-extracting file. You will be able extract everything using dearchive soft (winrar or something) if you need.

Results are not impressive ,but it even can run Quake 3 . In 640*480 fps is like wood saw and lagged .
By the way , may be ou know why it do not show CPU temperature in monitoring?

Excellent! Congrats!
Maybe Windows software doesn't "know" where to read it from. But if cooler speed is changing (maybe you can just hear or sense it) then inner monitoring works.

As i say before looks like the problem in an outdated operating system (Windows 98SE).
Because at WinXP Everest get information about CPU temperature.
Now i can go play NFS Porsche Unleashed;)
