I've read the guides and I'm sorry if I've missed what I'm looking for. I'm trying to mount my real floppy drive (Drive A) so that the ARENA freeware will install.
This is what I'm typing;

mount C D:\Games
Drive C is mounted as local directory D:\Games\

mount A D:\ARENA -t floppy
Drive A is mounted as local directory D:\ARENA\

It's mounting it like "-t floppy" wasn't there. I also tried doing the example mount in the readme;

1. To mount c:\DirX as a floppy :
mount a c:\DirX -t floppy

Same thing, it mounted it as a directory instead of a floppy drive. -t cdrom does exactly what it says it'll do, if I don't type -t cdrom it will mount as a directory, and if I do type -t cdrom it will mount as a cdrom drive. But the floppy command is different. I don't believe this is a game specific thread, as the example floppy mount doesn't work either. DOSbox is vr 0.70.

You don't need to mount any floppy to run freeware TES1: Arena.

I realized that -right- when I checked for responses. I'm such a fool, but I'd still like to know why I can't mount my floppy drive. I'd like to change the sound card used because I'm not getting any sound (Any help with that?) and I think you can only do so if you re-install.

What makes you think DOSBox is not mounting it in the correct way?

Arena comes as a self-extracting exe, so you don't need to install anything at all.

1. Move the folder "Arena" from D:\ to D:\games.

2. Start DOSBox

3. Type the following:

mount C D:\games

C:

cd arena

install

4. Chose "Configure game", select Soundblaster 16 as sound & music card, then exit install.

If there's still no sound, open your dosbox.conf and set GUS=false.

Thanks for the responses. The reason why I think it isn't mounting correctly is that when I mount a cdrom drive it'll tell me that's how it's mounted.

e.g 'Drive E is mounted as an cdrom drive'

I'm assuming that it's the same with mounting a floppy drive.

e.g 'drive a mounted as a floppy drive'.

All it says is that it's mounted as an directory. (EDIT- Oh alright, thanks for clearing that up)

Thanks for telling me that I could change the used sound card without having to install. As for sound, I'm working on that right now. I'll edit this post if I can't get it to work.

We don't report that you mounted it as floppy.
the only way you can see it (from a users perspective) is by looking at the amount of freespace

(under the hood there are some more subtile differences)
