hi! i recently installed dosbox0.7 on windows xp for playing a game. i started as recommended with mounting a directory on a real drive but dosbox insists, that my (real) drives all dont exist. as this was not the first time i used dosbox and everything was working fine then and i tried all spelling variations with the mount command this time, i'm quite clueless. please help.

Please tell us what you exactly did. Your description is allmost useless.
Did you try "mount c c:\" ?

exactly . i tried mount c c:\ or mount C "C:\prophet (i actually tried to play stone prophet)" or mount C C or for experiment: mount c d and so on... , but each time i got "directory x doesn't exist" as an answer. i didnt write you more, because there is no more but the malfunction (or my misunderstanding) of this basic input. by the way: thx for the fast reply.

Did you use DosBox in past succesfully? You could also try drag and dropping the .exe into DosBox.

when i remember correctly, i used dosbox for playing infocom adventures, but im not sure if i had to mount something, sorry.

You could also try drag and dropping the .exe into DosBox.

?? drag and drop into dosbox? the obvious way with strg + c/v doesnt work and even if it worked, dosbox will surely tell me that c is an illegal cmd, because c doesnt exist, which would be quite logical by the way.

Drag and dropping the .exe on Dosbox.exe or a shortcut to Dosbox.exe in explorer should call dosbox with the filename (full path) as parameter. It is generally not recommenced, but using it might lead to something.

Don't mean to insult your intelligence, but after you mount your folder, do you remember to change to the proper drive before trying to run the game?

sorry for waiting with answers. i've been away a few days. i'm not very insulted by your question, but the answer to it is, that i cant change to ANY drive because none of them are existing, what should be obvious after reading my post.

drag on drop on the dosbox icon actually would have worked, if i run autoinstall from my deamon tools iso before, so thx for the advice, i didnt know that this was possible, but in my special case it didnt help, because i have to install some soundconfig for Stone Prophet, and my sound card is on an IRQ that isnt even possible to choose in the menu, so i am not able to play the game anyways.

thx and lg, gregor

Please re-read what gulikoza wrote.
Also post a screenshot after the failed attempts, maybe it's something
obvious (and gulikoza's hint doesn't help).

sorry. i havent found out how to make screenshots with dosbox, but please believe me. mount c c:\ or anything similar leads to: "directory c doesn't exist"

ok. IVE FOUND IT! and as expected by me it was trivial. the american keyboard has two ":" which look almost identical on my screen, but they aren't. sorry for bothering.

lg and thx for patience, gregor

PS: i dont know how to start the game anyways. if someone knows a troubleshooting guide please let me know.

i'm very sorry but this is NOT what gulikoza said, he wrote: no and a line from top to bottom. shift + <, and shift + ö are NOT a line, but two dots., like in ":".
but as i see it now he meant right, so thx gulikoza. what i'm really sorry is, that the SP game didn't run (sg. with a uncompatible gravis driver), because they dont make real RPGs anymore, only softaction sleepingpills like oblivion.

lg and thx, gregor
