Seems vaguely like the card I got recently, except yours has that fantastic ESS Audiodrive built in and is probably far easier to get working in DOS. 😀

Acquired another Media Vision Thunder Board. IMHO these are very unrated sound cards for their era.

Oh, that looks like the connector has been desoldered. The through holes are a little damaged and one via on the left took a bit of a beating from what looks like someone leveraging the connector with a flat head screw driver but it doesn't look like anything is too damaged to just solder a new connector back in.
Makes me wonder why this board was chosen as a donor. Have you tested it yet? Fingers crossed for it to work!
Don't know. Got it from a PC recycling center. Will test it soon though. Definitely planning to solder in a new ISA.

I multiple AWE32's. Including the same CT3980 you have as well as several CT2760s and a CT3900. The 3980 is a solid choice, and with UNISOUND. It makes dealing with its PnP much easier.

I saw your post. True, it looks very similar design.
DOS setup is very simple. There are two programs, loads sound bank to memory and it's ready to use. I like NOS/CIB stuff as you get correct drivers with it 😉

Finally tracked down a 256Mb PCI X1550 for 10 bucks, this care is rather rare and this is the first I have seen show up on Evilbay in a number of years, its going into the dual Tualatin box to upgrade the X1300. Its one of the Visiontek SFF models but has both DVI and VGA which is better than the DMS the X1300 has.

They never will. Or at least not in our lifetime. They will become more obtainable if anything (people get more aware of their value so they will try to sell them more instead of throwing them away). And once the market is saturated the prices will go down as well. Keep in mind that chips from late 70s are not that hard to obtain yet they made much less of them compared to the 486s...

25 and 33 Mhz DX and SX you can get by the shovelful but 50Mhz DX not DX2 was never super common, and while collectors go nuts about numbering and marking differences on chips that all perform the same, the DX50 will remain about the rarest speed grade Intel 486 that anyone wants (16 and 20Mhz be damned). IMO the DX50 uncommoness has been known in hardware circles for many years, so these may have been set aside and been preferentially saved, but still that didn't make them much easier to find currently.
Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.
Other option:
AMD 486DX 40. I had no problem overclocked to 50MHz.

Even though you say rare ..there are still a good number of 486 DX2-50 CPUs up on the bay for not stupid prices (15 USD - 30USD) ...the 486 DX4-75 which is technically an OD CPU is much harder to source and exponentially more expensive 100 - 150 USD and up, the few I have seen are all being sold by collectors so that's likely inflating the prices.
That said, both models are uncommon but of the two the 50 isnt hard to get if you really want one.

Looking at whats up .. there is a number of DX-50s as well, though about twice the price of the DX2-50, one seller seems to have a tray of NOS DX-50s.
Might grab a couple for myself for the collection.
I finally have something terrible, and I might someday build something around it.

Why would I want anything but RDRAM for a 1.3?
make sure you get the slowest RDRAM for it . .and dont forget a 64bit FX5200 just to round it out.
