My aptiva doesn't let me upgrade teh cpu until 200mhz MMX, only at 200mhz, without MMX.

I imagine it depends of the number of the build, right?, Where must i search to find the build of mine pc?.

This is the reason I went with the overdrive cpu. 200 mmx no problem and easy install without fiddling around. Switch 66.6 fsb via jumpers.

This was my info source and it lists machine types:
http://aptivasupport.com/uas/cpu/

Ah, yeah, i alreadyremember where the problem was: my motherboard doesn't have the jumper to modify the voltage.

By the way, What solution did you choose for the heatsink?, i'm thinking about an 8x8x5cm copper one, but i can't find one... ^^u

I used a startech fanp1003ld for my normal 233 MMX (You can still buy them new very easily).
They are a little large, but they cool very good for socket 7.
As KSHIRZA1 pointed out, the overdrive comes with it's own fan and heatsink.
Changing the voltage on the motherboard isn't a jumper setting, you actually need to change a component.
If you can send the partnumber of your motherboard, we can lookup what options are available for your system, but an overdrive will almost always work if you can get one.

430HX/P1 233MMX/64MB/S3VirgeDX,Voodoo1SLI(King Shaman)/AWE32
440BX/CelTualatin1400/512MB/Banshee, PowerVR PCX2/AWE64Gold
645DX/P4Northwood 3,5Ghz(Oc)/512MB/Voodoo5500/Vortex2
875P/P4EE 3,4Ghz/1GB/GeforceFX5950/Audigy2ZS

It fits... only 41mm, although i have just above (partially) the cd drive. I have only 5cm height in that part.

My motherboard doen't have the jumper to reduce the voltage to put in a pentium 200 mmx, i already looked at that. The max cpu i can have is an pentium 200mhz.

Do you have an iso of the original 2144 m63 recovery disk. I have the same machine. My CD is scratched beyond repair my floppy works and trys to open the CD but fails half way thru writing the recovery.

I found a few online but the are in a foreign language.

Hi KSHIRZA1,

I also have IBM Aptiva 2144. My motherboard crashed in bios update. It is currently not opening. Since IBM flash files are specific, I cannot write this files with eprom programmer. Can you take the BIOS file image of your motherboard with UNIFLASH and send it to me?

I have a question about your monitor... I have an G40 too, How do yo see the image at 800x600?.

In my case i can see the imagen goodly sharp at 640x480, but at 800x600 the picture is blurry, Does it something to do with the integrated VGA card? (i have not try with the dedicated VGA card yet).

I wanted a power station and the Kensington masterpiece has the perfect look. After some searching I found a brand new one to add to my Aptiva. Looks great!

Probably the cleanest IBM setup I've seen, what games you play on it?

Thank you. Right now it’s been Star Wars dark forces. Just before that I tried to get through rise of the triads. Always return to sim city 2000.

I've got one of those MasterPiece units, mine is a bit more yellow and some switches seem glitchy though. Handy to stick under older-school monitors with no swivel though... well mine is, has a turntable under it.

Thanks for posting the box etc, given me the idea that the MOVs could be worn out in mine... I think they go flaky after too many big hits... so might not be the switches.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

What resolutions do you reach?.

I have the same ibm with the same monitor, and beyond 640x480 it becomes blurry.

What is the FRU of the L2 cache COAST modules? I have exactly the same Aptiva (two to be precise, tower version too, with exactly the same board).

Many 3Dfx and Pentium III-S stuff.

Before the above mentioned sound card I finally have found a brand new set of the original speakers with matching power button (all I cared about). Once I unboxed them I didn’t expect the size difference. These are much bigger…
