Hello.

I've met yesterday with a local retro collector.
He gave me an Asus P5A 1.06 that had issues.
He said that the the card worked property. Then stopped working without any reason.

Issues (see video https://youtu.be/nUrMRVBIHHg) :

  • 1 long 2 shorts beeps
  • followed by infinite short beeps (fast)
  • no post

Like him before, I tried several things, without success:

  • Check and double check jumpers
  • Check for physical damages
  • Clear CMOS
  • Change ram, change slots
  • Change CPU (+adjust jumpers)
  • Change graphics card
  • With or without HDD/floppy drive
  • Underclock memory to 66
  • Isa diagnostic card. Code 41

I have no clue for now.
My next attempt will be to flash and try a new bios with a new bios chip (in case of physical damage)

Any advice ?
Thank you very much

Seems like it's reporting two different problems.
1 long beep + two short beeps (AWARD BIOS): unable to initialize the display. Did you also try a PCI video card? Maybe the AGP slot has an issue.
Repeated high frequency beeps (AWARD BIOS): CPU overheating - this might or might not be related to the first issue (it could just be a damaged thermal diode/sensor)

I did not try a pci card personally but the previous owner told me he did. (I will try again to be sure).

I will also have a look around and under the CPU for a potentially damaged probe. Maybe try another family of CPUs (Cyrix or P mmx, just in case)

Thank you very much
