I've tried both DOSBox 0.70 and 0.71 with my xbox360 gamepad (not wireless and windows vista x86 if that really makes any difference). When I set the joysticktype variable to anything other than none it crashes immediately on startup. The console window claims to have found a 5 axis 10 button joystick and immediately after that line appears it crashes.

Any idea what's going on?

bug in dosbox.

Dunno why this would happen for him under 0.70 though.

edit: Now I'm not sure what is causing the crashing. 0.71 still seems to crash on my system even w/o the gamepad. (though I haven't tried rebooting and unplugging the wireless recv) 0.70 was really stable on my system, but I can barely get 0.71 to run!

edit2: I believe it may be the process "XBOXSTAT.EXE" that runs even after your controller is disconnected that may be causing the crashing.

I am not the original poster but I am having this problem with a wireless 360 pad (w/ wireless receiver) and v0.71 of DOSBOX which was a mandatory Steam upgrade for the id Software collection.

However, 0.70 seemed to work fine w/ the 360 pad... Also, can you forward the upcoming version to Valve so it works on the id Software collection? Wolfenstein is not as fun without a gamepad. 😀 Thanks!

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
Intel D965WH mobo
Nvidia 8800GTS
