I got the package available for Debian-based distros, but it was v 0.65.1. I want to compile the 0.71 version. I've got a 64-bit Ubuntu 7.06 running and I think it needs to be compiled into a 32-bit mode. How do I do that? I'm a little lost when it comes to the make command.

I'm getting the infamous:
configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables
error. AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGG!!!!
