I've always been a bit attracted to those European lightshows known as demos and I'm happy to report that DOSBox seems to be working quite well for them... Anyways, they seem to be a much better way to give the GUS emulation a hard workout than many games... They also probably should serve as a better test of low-level VGA emulation as demosceners did a lot of hardware tricks...

But all that doesn't matter because I'm far too busy being passively entertained...

hey....

There also Australian, American and Asian demosceners too yaknow and some of them have been around since the scene began. They're not exclusively 'European lightshows'....

Aussies yeah, but I've never heard of any kind of demoscene in Asia and I've never seen a good "domestic" demo...

madcrow:
If you want to get more accurate VGA emulation on a scanline-by-scanline basis, you can try out a build that uses hal9000's experimental vga patch. (maybe it will eventually go into the official builds in some form, but isn't in yet as far as I'm aware). I like using it to see the "scrollers suck" part of Panic in all its glory 😀

For example, if you're on Windows, you can try one of ykhwong's latest builds (easily found by searching for 'ykhwong' with google) and set the conf's output mode to 'demovga'.

Here's a link to the patch thread for more information:
