Norton Ghost dies in Dosbox 0.71

When I attempt to run Norton Ghost 2002 I get a processor exception error (see attached file) and Dosbox immediately shuts down.

I'm running Windows XP with SP2 and all current patches on a PC with an ASRock mobo (P4 3 GHz processor), 1.5 GB RAM, and NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 4000 graphics.

Thanks -- any help/suggestions would be welcome. I know there are newer and better ways of backing up, but my company insists on using Ghost from within Windows.

Ghost inside DOSBox 😳 Are you sure you are running DOSBox? If so, which version?

The version, as indicated in the post header, is 0.71.

Well you also indicated that Ghost dies IN dosbox, which doesn't make
too much sense. Guess you mean that Ghost dies during the backup process
when dosbox is active, right?
What about 0.70? Does it work there?

Just create the Ghost boot disk and boot it on the PC you want to image.

As for your company insisting on using Ghost. Do a comparison between Acronis/Ghost, pricepoint features. Run some actual tests etc, etc. After your done you'll be able to by Acronis and be happy.

To be precise, Ghost dies in DOSBox before it even displays a screen. The old version of Ghost we own (2002 with a boot disk) is intended to run in real mode, yet my all-knowing boss insists that it can be made to run in Windows. If it can't, the fault is obviously mine, which means my job is toast. I'm sure Acronis is the better choice, but it just isn't an option where I work.

Ok but dosbox is DEFINITELY not the thing to use for such stuff,
its aim are games, not fail-safeness and usability for backup systems.

I'd say, stay off any Norton virusses - sorry, software. Except their software acts like a virus, slowing down your system, installing crap left and right, replacing Windows items with Norton variants, and in the end causing games and programs to crash, etc.
