From: <dosbox-announce-admin@li...> - 2002-07-24 14:20
Dosbox 0.50 has been released.Dosbox is a full x86 emulator written in C/C++ with sound
and dos.
It's main use is to run old dosgames on platforms which
don't have dos(win2k/linux).
The most important new features:
-you can resize your window.
-a lot of the real mode 386 instructions were added.
-fixed a lot of errors(keyboard/divisions/graphics)
-it has a plugin system now.
-drawing occurs only on changes in memory instead of drawing
an entire frame.
-Source has been released!
-lot's more... check the release notes.Get it at http://dosbox.zophar.net

I foundd 0.55 and 0.56 and 0.57.
Wow. The Archive even captured zip files of old win32 versions of DOSBox. I'll have to fire those up one day just for the nostalgia. I don't think I started using DOSBox until some version in 0.50 range. I wrote an article on my website using CVS versions of 0.60 (then 0.58) and updated the article later on. The screenshots section is nice and as you can see DOSBox's compatibility back in 2003 was quite impressive:

DOSBox is clearly the top end emulator release of the decade for me. I know a lot of people loved it once the Amiga started getting emulated, but getting a 199x DOS Gaming PC emulated was the far bigger accomplishment in my book. I lived and died on DOS games from 198x - 199x (with a few NES and SNES scattered in there as well). So getting a DOS PC emulated was a big deal for me. Of course in the 1990s the top end emulator release had to be either Nesticle, Genecyst or perhaps even the first version of Snes96/97 to could out with sound support. I spent hours trying to get that compiled and working on a Linux install.
Prior to DOSBox I spent a lot of time using VDMSound and I even bought SoundFXNT for Windows (which I still believe was the better product due to it's great compatibility). I'm so glad to leave those behind though as I have slowly transitioned into non-Microsoft platforms for my personal use so that I could no longer rely upon Microsoft's old 16 bit VM.
So thanks to everybody on the DOSBox team! You made the impossible happen and people like me will never forget it.
oh no...
I bet there is going to be somebody asking a question like I can't start Warcraft, I'm using DOSBox 0.50......
Should I support them in D.O.G.?...

Don't think about it.
Keep your program easy, support latest versions only.😵
Supporting more & more older versions will you run in trouble.
Klimawandel.
Cool!
Alley cat. That is really cool. 0.2 running alley cat.
And how did you manage to get those cool colours?
Intel i7 5960X
Gigabye GA-X99-Gaming 5
8 GB DDR4 (2100)
8 GB GeForce GTX 1070 G1 Gaming (Gigabyte)
Early dosbox versions didn't exactly have perfect cga emulations 😀
That was in your blue-green phase, Harekiet?
Should be revived, machine=cga_coolcolors.
yeh gets a bit complicated to define it all in the config file then. But then there's the fear for more config options 😜
Pity. A machine=cga_psychodelic setting would be über cool. 😁
Anyway, back on topic...
I had never seen a DOSBox version so old. I think I started using 0.58

I simply couldn't resist...
It's amazing how compatible the first release already was! 😊

"What's a paladin?!"
Long live Harekiet's realmode emulation skills! (not to speak of the rest)
Dott looks really nice that way 😀
