Tomb Raider 1 came out a few years later with the first trilogy. It can run in widescreen in 32 bits in 1920*1080 and it can skip videos.
Here in Qemu for me it's only playable in software mode in 640*480, but this is what the Rave emulation looks like at the moment.

I really enjoyed Colonization. I wish that they had made an updated version for PC that was a little higher resolution. Everything is so darn chunky.

The Complete Edition of Civ4 has Colonization remake using Civ4 engine, but that might be a bit too "updated."

Thanks for the tip, I didn't know about the remake. I haven't followed the Civilization series since Civ 3, which was the last version that I really liked. I have bought several subsequent releases when on sale to try, but could never get into them.

I suspect that this Colonization remake may be a hit or miss, depending on how closely it follows the formula of the original. Although I'll still be willing to give it a try.

To be honest the Amiga version looks the best to me.

I think there is a big number of players that like more the Amiga version. I have seen the game a little on my Amiga 1200 (not the Aga version) and I can say that it is very attractive. 😀

The Amiga version looks really neat, where each sub-window looks functional. The Mac version, on the other hand, doesn't look much different than the DOS version.

In any case, there are many games which I really like their Amiga version, graphics-wise, although my preference is only based on screenshots.

QEMU? Rave? You mean Rage emulation? what? Since when it was available?!

One thing that I really like about the original Macintosh is that it had crisp, clear, SQUARE pixels. I am allergic to rectangular pixels. It makes me brain hurt.

Then they released the Apple IIGS. I swear that Steve Jobs did that on purpose. He was pedantic about visual perfection, and hated this project because it competed with the Macintosh. It's already well documented that the IIGS was shipped with a clock speed deficit, so not to cannibalize Mac sales.

The 2.8 MHz clock was a deliberate decision to limit the IIGS's performance to less than that of the Macintosh. This decision had a critical effect on the IIGS's success; the original 65C816 processor used in the IIGS was certified to run at up to 4 MHz.

I don't know much about all this but it seems Qemu has experimental emulation of the ATI Rage 128 since version 4.1 in 2019. I wrote Rave because in the setup menu of Tomb Raider you can pick Software, Rave or 3dfx but 3dfx is greyed. I don't know if it's possible to emulate the 3dfx though. On the picture I was running Macos 9.2.

That would be baller. The Rage 128 is a milestone card for DirectX 6 and extremely solid with performance and compatibility for the era. I wonder if it's possible for them to correct for the awful dithering from the original hardware. That's the only reason I dislike ATI for 16-bit games.

I think the rage 128 is automatically on. Here's the line to run Macos 9.2

Here's a tutorial to install it, there's nothing hard.

System Shock is arguably better on Mac than on PC, if we take the original vanilla CD-version.

What? Seriously? I've never even heard about the Mac version. How does it look like? Got any screenshots?

Secret of the Silver Blades, there's black & white, looks like an ega/vga gog port, and then a mac color version that looks high res. https://www.mobygames.com/game/504/secret-of- … -silver-blades/
