I would like to express to you all here how "happy" I am with my new Sound Blaster X-fi Platinum board. I mean, Creative made a lot by the time this shit came out, and it just SUCKS! What I mean by that is:
This board have 3 different audio modes, and no matter which one u choose, your recordings will be POOR! And as for vista, where have all the softwares for the board gone? i cant even rip some CDs! Nothing! Zip!
I spent 200 bucks thinking I'de in heaven, but I came all way down TO HELL!! If there is any executive from Creative reading this, FUCK YOU!!! TRY TO MAKE THESE BOARDS A LITTLE BETTER, LIKE AT LEAST SB LIVE USED TO BE!

set the recording device to "Wave" instead of "What U Hear" and now your recording should sound good, as for CD Ripping, i would hazard a guess at something.... did you install the audio drivers from windows update? if yes, try NOT installing them, ive heard of issues with it.

the creative "beta" audio drivers prevent you from adjusting speaker volume levels properly while in 2.0 speaker mode... (it still treats you as having 7.1 setup)

I'm trying to avoid to buy a new Sound Blaster, but I have no idea about what kind of sound cards to buy. I have a Sound Blaster Live! Value, and I would like a sound card with sound font capabilities, good sound and not too expensive. Any idea?

There's no Wave Option, franpa. Only What you hear. How can I change that?

I've got a Sound Blaster X-Fi (ExtremeMusic, I believe) and my problem here is very similar. The sound card's recording volume is just too quiet. I have microphone volume turned all the way up (in both Playback and Recording), the 20dB microphone boost feature is turned on, and still it's too quiet. I ended up buying a new microphone with a battery-powered amplifier, and while it's audible now, I have to press my face to the thing for people to hear what I'm saying over Google Talk and the like, and the quality is absolutely terrible.

That's why I'm going to just buy a new headset - a USB one. That should, in theory, bypass the X-Fi.

click the V arrow right next to the red REC and choose wave... it wont appear in the list if you are already using it.
