I got the top 1 because it had the most jumpers

What do the jumpers exactly do? One is for the (not working bios) I believe. But what about the others?

That's a good question.

I had assumed it was a clone of https://www.lo-tech.co.uk/wiki/Lo-tech_ISA_USB_Adapter That has 4 jumpers.

Mine has 3 jumpers.

J2 & J3 combine for 6 pins and 4 labeled positions: 23x,24x,25x,26x It arrived set to 25x. Would this be IO port address, yes?
J1 connects to pin A10 (I/O CH RDY ??? ) on one side and I think ground on the other. It arrived unjumped.

Ordered the same one and got it in 1 week from China. Pretty quick. Will install it later and do a disktest as well.

Also got a CD with a lots of drivers, schematics and documents. Drivers also include support for Win98 all the way to Win7. Can't upload it as the ISO is 12MiB and the max I can upload is 5MiB. If someone wants it let me know.

@Yoghoo you could upload it to Archive.org or it should be shared with Vogons Drivers admin here. Please share it with me and I will take care of communication with Vogons Drivers person, thank you.

Also, I think you probably want the FreddyV driver. It's 3x to 6x faster.

Installed the ISA to USB card and did some disktests on a 386DX/25 with a couple of USB sticks. Used the version 0.22 286 driver from FreddyV (thanks for the optimized driver btw!).

Noname 512MB USB stick with a 512MB FAT filesystem:

Write speed: 436.21 KB/s
Read speed: 428.90 KB/s
8K random, 70% read: 28.7 IOPS
Sector random read: 136.9 IOPS
Average access time: 7ms

Toshiba 16GB stick with a 2GB FAT filesystem:

Write speed: 448.63
Read speed: 428.90
8K random, 70% read: 47.1 IOPS
Sector random read: 272.3 IOPS
Average access time: 4ms

Seems that the kind of USB stick makes some small differences in write speed and quite a big difference in IOPS.

Thanks. Used that driver indeed.

@cyberluke sent you a PM with a link to the zipped ISO file.

Did some big copy tests to different USB drives and encountered some nasty corruption issues. After copying some big directories I saw all files had weird names, sizes and also the volume label of the USB drives got weird names. This could easily be reproduced and happened all the time.

First I thought it had to do with the IO address so I changed it. Also tried the original driver (instead of the one from FreddyV) and other speed settings but nothing worked. Then I thought it had maybe to do with the disk overlay driver (EZ-DRIVE) so tested it without but also this wasn't the problem. Of course I tested it also without other drivers, memory managers etc but that also wasn't the problem.

Finally I replaced the OS from DR-DOS 6.0 to MS DOS 5.0 and that finally solved the problem. Don't have a clue why that solved it as the drivers should work with all DOS versions 3.x and higher. Not to happy with the "fix" so if someone has a solution to get it to work on DR-DOS 6.0 please let me know.

Does it have to be DOS 5 or does it work with 6.22?

MS DOS 6.22 would probably also work. Didn't tested it as I wanted an older DOS release.

Do you remember if you were using HIMEM or EMM386 or DR Cache?

I tested on DR-DOS with HIMEM, QEMM and nothing at all. Also tested with and without Norton Cache 2. All tests were corrupted.

On MS DOS 5.0 all test were successful. Now using it with QEMM and Norton Cache 2 btw.

Want to order one on AliExpress but I see that there are 3 different versions (see picture).

First one is the bugged one. But what about the second and third one? The first 2 are about the same price. The 3rd one is about 50% more expensive.

Anyone got any idea which one is the 'best'?

The top is buggy (ROM chip select not properly done).
The bottom looks like the DIL (dual in line) version of the top.
The middle one uses a GAL, a programmable chip, but I wonder if it has enough I/Os to do the decoding of the IO address and the ROM address?

The DOS mass storage driver use LBA addressing, so,
if the USB was created with a a copy of a big CF Card done via XTIDE, PCHS to VCHS conversion may add "holes" between the sectors.

The USB need to be formatted in FAT16 directly by windows.

It is the mail problem of these driver : Disk can't be formatted and we can't partition them, it need to be done on a "Modern" PC.

Sounds like you are saying that all three versions are affected by the rom issue. Is it something that can be patched?

Also, has anyone tried putting a header here and making a front panel usb port?

Header should work. 😀 seems to tap lines in parallel. So if only using one, should work. Idk if USB would like two in parallel

Tried changing Config.sys to

DEVICE=C:\CH375DOS.SYS to match the others in the CONFIG.SYS Still no luck

I have tried changing speeds. I am sure am doing something fundamentally wrong.

Don't know what else to try. Where is FreddyV?

Is the file present in C:\ ? Did you remember to copy it there.
the only thing you didn't show is a dirlisting of C:\

if it is actually there, verify the filesize and/or try another version you can find in this thread.

Right to repair is fundamental. You own it, you're allowed to fix it.
