HI, I've put together a nice little XP system, i3 3420, 4GB DDR3, X-Fi, Quadro 2000, Windows XP.

Quadro 2000 works fine in 1440p 60hz, no issues with latest XP drivers, it's via DisplayPort, all good, but need a bit more grunt to drive Fallout Vegas and Mass Effect.

My 560ti with mini HDMI and DVI, will not output 1440p on XP, 7, fine, but XP a big no no, and I'm wanting XP purely for the best EAX experience.

I just need some advice please - would it be fair to assume that any Radeon or Geforce, that is supported officially by XP, and has a displayport, can work at that intended resolution, as long as displayport is only used?

I'm eying up either a GTX 660, Quadro 4000, or a Radeon 5850.

560Ti has DVI double link. That is enough to output 2560x1600 on 60Hz. Not sure if it can maintan stable 60fps in Mass Effect though.

The beefiest Nvidia you can use without driver hacks is a 900-series GPU, but not all of the high-end models have XP driver support at end-of-life, as odd as that sounds.

I've tried a DVI to HDMI converter, unless there's another type to use, blank screen anything above 1080p, monitor only has DP and HDMI.

Simple converters can output only DVI single link.

HDMI is single link only.
Unless you got DVI-DL to HDMI 2.0 adapter, 1440p60 will never work over DVI to HDMI officially (you can try to make it work OC'ing RAMDACs with custom resolution - no guarantees it will work though).

Just buy 7970/280X, they work with DP 1.3/1.4 at 1440p60 no problem.

That's now the plan, something AMD wise with displayport.

With the 560 ti in Windows 7 64, I used a mini hdmi to hdmi to the monitor, was able to ceate a manual 2560x1440 resolution at 60hz, everything runs great, Mass Effect runs fine, smooth all good, however, if I use the same setup on XP, but with a resolution of 1920x1080, which I thought would perform the same or better as lower res, it stutters a lot more and it's a lot more laggy. Both drivers are in the same park, 355.92.

Would this be related in any way to general XP vs 7 performace, or anything to do with bandwidth issues with HDMI over XP using this cable - Fallout NV seems very stuttery at 1080p vs the smooth gameplay at 1440p on Windows 7.
