Is anyone able to run an Am5x86 at 180 MHz inside a standard AT case with poor airflow, at 3.3 - 4.0 V, and not use any type of fancy cooling/refrigeration?

In summer, expect the inside of your AT case to be around 33 C after it has been running for awhile. I've been finding that benchtop testing at 180 MHz doesn't necessarily equate to the same stability conditions when placed inside a mini AT case. On the bench with room temperature around 22 C, I can get away with a standard socket 370 heatsink/fan, but once inside a case with poor airflow, the air temp rises to over 33 C and I'm needing a peltier.

Thus, I was wondering if my CPU is just not up to snuff, or if anyone's Am5x86 can survive the above specifications at full load. Ideally the CPU should be running full for an hour or so and won't crash under typical usage (Win95 games, internet use, Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, compiling, etc). Thanks!

You can install Socket 7 or small Socket 370 cooler on thin thermal-pad. Thermalright Odyssey for example, sticky enough to hold it on CPU. Should be enough to cool 180Mhz/4V.

I must be some kind of standard: the anonymous gangbanger of the 21st century.

I'm already using a large copper socket 370 cooler, tried with thermal pads, and later MX-4 paste. Once inside a closed environment, the temp gets up to 33-36 C and it needs a peltier to run at sub-ambient temps. I'm was wondering if anyone has had success with an Am5x86-180 inside an AT case with only a heatsink/fan, regardless of size.
