Hi, two weeks ago I made a post about my Kasan Blitz Verite 2200 card. Can anyone who also own this card take a look? I need some help, as there is very little information about this particular card on the internet.

Kasan Blitz 2200 - missing components?

Hi

I was about to ask in here about that card , If someone needed any pictures of the card or it's box or cd-software before i list it for sale.

I guess your are lucky.
Just give me some time to look at the pcb and take pictures.

Hey all I'm having trouble updating the BIOS for my Diamond Stealth II. Followed the instructions in the Vogons driver archive and copied the bios update .exe to the floppy and, depending on which bios, recieved these two errors:

1. System disk not found

2. Remove disks or other media and press enter (no media is attached to the PC)

What am I doing wrong here? Feels like this should be straightforward

new video about RReady a rendition verite wrapper
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hgxik-rUWT4&a … arangaDayananda

If someone ready to help let me know , Sharanga Dayananda will prepare test exe to run on actual Renditon Verite video card, to find out how some API fucntions actually works.

At this moment i can't help , moved to summerhouse and have no access to real hardware now.

The Question is : from youtube channel -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hgxik-rUWT4&l … 5Ib-39rYN4_3Yqr_
http://nirvtek.com/downloads/RenditionTest.7z. This might not run on Win98. In which case I'll dig up my VS isos.

To run it on a Rendition based machine:

from a cmd prompt:
cd <path where exe was extracted>
RenditionTest.exe

and it should produce something like this (Your values should be correct. Mine are garbage):

Board #1
Verite ID 2000
IoBase fff8
MemBase 3a77040
MemMappedIoBase fff8
memSize 134217728
IOBase fff8
BusMaster 1
VGA Device1

But you might not be comfortable running this on your Win98 box.

I did run your first exe on my machine and the second on a VM. ...

Because it is peculiar? It's pratically a risc cpu and when used with RRedline it was impressive... sadly it's true it was slow in general using and also had some critical bugs (like ctrl-alt-canc not properly working)

Okay sold. Do you know if it can be programmed with the API to produce custom effects (like current day vertex/pixel shaders)? I think I'm going to get myself one and give it a shot.

I'm sorry I'm just a fan, I never messed with any api but i'm pretty confident other vogonoers will be able to give you a proper answer.

Nothing like that. The CPU is the frontend of a regular graphics pipeline.

Let's see. At the time, it was the only 2D/3D combo that was particularly useful, and they were touting exclusive 3D accelerated Quake (vQuake). id Software said the V1000 was great. It took maybe a year before it became clear that it was actually nowhere near Voodoo1's capability. There were some synthetic fillrate tests hinting at it but the games weren't really there yet. Rendition was good at touting the firmware programmability, DMA transfers, and full triangle setup engine.

V2200 was briefly impressive compared to Voodoo1, from an image quality standpoint. It's a crisper, more contrasted, more colorful image. But then games started to greatly benefit from per pixel mip mapping and also the V2200 can not really run Unreal.

V2200 also looks considerably better than Riva 128.

At the time I felt that V2200 looked really nice compared to my Voodoo1 card and I started to chase that image quality thing. That got me into Matrox G200 and G400, and later Radeon.

I had Riva 128 it was my first gpu, I liked the image quality in 2D but in 3D the textures etc. were not up to Voodoo 2.

Just bought V2100, interesting to see how it handles everything. Back then every one crapped on the chip, but it was after Voodoo was released. I've done a bit more research on verite, if my sources are true it seems the lack of hardware z-buffer ended up being its demise as it had to be done on software and it crippled the otherwise good card.

Yeah the V1000 wasn't designed to be used with z-buffering. It's not all that surprising for the time though. Voodoo was just an exception to these sorts of limitations.

V2000 is a very large improvement of their architecture and much faster, but the competition was moving too fast. Voodoo2 launched around the same time. V2000 is competitive with Voodoo1.

Good reading:

That was an interesting read. Apparently even Michael Abrash was involved in vquake. Lately I read his graphics programming black book, very recommended for pre-3d programming. Everyone always talks about Carmack and tends to forget him for some reason.

Michael Abrash was involved with Quake in general. John Carmack recruited him at the time to help with it. The two were reunited at Oculus/Meta for awhile.

There was an issue of Computer Gaming World that had a lot of Quake coverage and actually had a tech article about Quake with Abrash and Carmack.
