One with the big DIP40 chip is a COM port card, the other is a RAM expansion for some XT type machine.

Yep I don't think I have seen a 5160 that didn't have one of these in slot8. Both of my XTs had one in them. ( one an earlier model 5160 and one a very late model 5160 ).

The RAM expansion card has 256K in Bank 1, and 64K in both Bank 1 and Bank 2. The card is extremely likely configured to extend a 256KB PC/XT mainboard (both the 2nd generation PC mainboard and the XT mainboards had up to four banks of 64K, yielding 256KB total) to the maximum "conventional" memory amount of 640KB.

According to -0°, you need to set the single jumper if the card is fitted in slot 8 (to drive the "CARDSLCT" line on contact B8). As the card on the photo doesn't have the jumper set, it is likely not directly pulled from slot 8 in a 5160 board. That jumper shouldn't be set if the card is fitted into an AT or newer machine, because ISA contact B8 is 0WS meaning in AT-class machines.
