Have a windows 98, not second edition, PC whose floppy drive stopped working. I had a tech replace it but it still would not work, even replacing the cable too. Pins seem fine on it. Won’t read floppies on A drive in DOS or Windows. But it does try to and lights up. I’m a noob when it comes to hardware and don’t know where to find my motherboard model number. I know it’s a pentium.
1. If it’s not the drive itself, or the cable, or the floppy disk (works on other pcs), what could it be?
2. What’s a good alternative to transfer files to my laptop? If I want to do game dev on this pc I’d like to be able to transfer files out. Ideally I’d like a working floppy drive though. It looks like I have 2 PCI AND 1 ISA SLOT, though I literally have never worked on pc internals before so I took a picture.
3. What about boot disks?
Can provide more info if asked. Adding pictures for now.
