Hi Vogons,

There's an organic package Pentium 200 classic been hibernating in the corner of my CPU box for something like 2 decades, so what's the reason, or thinnest excuse to give it it's day in the sun?

Motherboards I should have are https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/zida-5 … p-ver.-1.0,-2.0 and https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/asus-p-i-p55t2p4
and a Shuttle HX board, think it's a HOT-553 not totally sure.

So it could stretch it's legs most on an HX but if it's a "late 1996" authenticity build it's gonna be on an FX, is there any retro-compatibility reasons to favor an FX??

Graphics, for 1996 auth, got Virge DX, Rage, or 2D speed Bali 32.... or for later, hmmm, not sure what PCI cards I want to give up to it, Rage II+ probably available.

Sound, AWE32, AWE64, SB16, ESS, Opti etc SB 16 clones.

Trying to think of really really P200 specific stuff here, I've got it very solidly bracketed in by slower pentium and MMX and 233 MMX/PII and K6 and MII possibilities. Otherwise it's just like "Here's the fastest plain jane Pentium, it does Pentium things... fastly...." I guess there's a minor personal reason to rebuild the BCM SQ595 based machine my wife had in '98 that had a P100 and make it a P200 best it can be... but it needs work on the regulator which I blew up trying to get a K6 to work on it, at not terribly elevated speeds for the trial run, so only 166 I think... which makes me question it's ability to run a P200 for very long either with that replaced by stock part. It was running a Cyrix at 150 for a bit though. By the time I go well the 8x CD sucked and it's dead, and the graphics were a very lame 5430, so nope not that again, I've ship of Theseused it into something else anyway.

So yah, anyone got anything?

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.
