As I recently obtained a Compaq SMART RAID controller (which has contact issues on the controller firmware ROMs and likely dead backup batteries, but seems to basically work otherwise), I want to install more than one drive into my Compaq ProSignia (aka ProSignia 3080) system, but while obtaining SCSI drives isn't that hard, you don't get them with the original Compaq Rails to insert them into the bays. So I took measurements on the one pair I got, and designed a 3D model of them to be printed on standard FDM printers. I verified that the rails printed from standard PLA work perfectly as replacement.

The original rails are desinged for special screws that have a wider cylindrical area before the start of the head. The holes in the Compaq rails are designed to accomodate that wider cylinder. The design on thingiverse on the other hand is meant for a UNC#6 thread reaching up to the head of the screw, so the hole is intentionally smaller to provide a thight fit with the thread. In case you want bigger holes for the original Compaq screws, you can generate a variant of the OpenSCAD file which sets holediameter to cpqholediameter instead of 3.7 (mm), and re-export STL or process it in any other way you require for production.

The model is published on thingiverse at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6136025

This must be the biggest cliffhanger I've seen 😁

Continues on season 2! 🤣

I think this is the stuff:

I have found quite a few models of rails for different vintage systems and cases and printed few for my projects. It is awesome that people make the effort of designing and publishing them to thingiverse, printables etc. service as original rails are often just gotten lost during the years and are almost impossible to find anywhere.

I'm really sorry, I didn't mean to forget the link. Probably I was too tired when I wrote that post. The link posted by CharlieFoxtrot is the one I meant to post here. It's up on Thingiverse since around two weeks, but I only made the thing public yesterday once I tested that the rails indeed fit the machine. The prints I tested were made using the STL file as uploaded to thingiverse.

Nice to know. If my mind does not fool me Systempro XL uses the same rails, or was it Systempro LT? Actually I still have nos.
The original Compaq Part No would be helpful for people looking for the rails.

The number printed on the original rails is 139975. This might be the original COMPAQ part number, but neither Google nor Bing produce meaningful results. Google finds one vendor selling "KELLY GREEN RAILS" with the part number 139975-001. Bing finds a big memory reseller promising to procure "139975-001 Compaq Hard Drive Retainer Sidemount Plastic Rail Kit for Proliant Servers Workstations Etc" when you place an order for USD 70. Amazon has this item in the data base as "Compaq Hard Drive Retainer (Sidemount Plastic Rail Kit qty-5) Proliant Servers Workstations etc - Refurbished - 139975-001" (Quantity 5? Why that? The ProSignia 3080 aka ProSigna 486DX/33 or ProSignia 486DX2/66 requires a pair per drive and it has four slots). None of them have pictures. Can anyone in this thread confirm or reject this part number, or knows a different equivalent number?

Fun fact: Even if the original rails are green, and this is obviously the most important property as seen by the vendor calling them just "KELLY GREEN RAILS", the replacements printed from black PLA work perfectly without being green. For "historical correctness", green PLA might be preferable, though.
