I have a Gateway 2000 4SX-33 (uses the Intel Classic R motherboard) and have been struggling to find a compatible CF card. Thanks to sysjunkie, I was able to install the XTIDE micro BIOS in the user accessible flash, which bypasses the main BIOS and overcomes the 512MB limitation. It can detect regular hard drives (tested with Quantum 4GB) but won't even POST with most of the cards I've tried. The closest to working are a couple WD SiliconDrive PATA cards - the 4GB fails to detect altogether and the 512MB causes it to hang indefinitely. I was hoping an industrial CF card might work so I got a pair of cheap 4GB Transcend CF220I cards but these can be counted among the "doesn't POST" cards.

Does anyone know of a compatible CF card or if this particular board just doesn't like them? Maybe I'm better off hunting down a SCSI controller.
