I’m having a joystick problem in Aces over Europe, when starting and not touching the joystick at all the airplane rolls uncontrollably. There’s almost no control when attempting to control the airplane with the joystick.

I have Aces of the Pacific installed and I’m not having any problem with joystick control in that game.

I’m using a Saitek ST 290 Pro USB joystick.

I would appreciate any help…. thanks

I changed the buttonwrap=true to buttonwrap=false in the DosBox config but it had no effect. The airplane still continues to spin and roll out oI control with very limited joystick control. If it helps identify the problem I noticed that when I exit the mission the there is a fast clicking sound that contunues until I exit to dos, that clicking sound isen't present until after I attempt to fly a mission. The Calabrate joystick seems to be working.

Do other games work fine with the joystick, like keen?

I think I found the problem, Aces over Europe has a RESOURSE.CFG file. I changed the following line from joyDrv = NO to joyDrv = STD.DRV and the uncontrolled rolling went away. I can control the airplane with the joystick now.

I had checked the RESOURSE.CFG file in Aces of the Pacific and it was joyDrv = NO and I didn’t have joystick problems so I assumed that it should be the same in Aces over Europe, I guess I assumed wrong.

FYI I have went back and changed the line in Aces of the Pacific to read joyDrv = STD.DRV and it did make a difference; prior to making the change while I did have joystick control it was sloppy. After I made the change I have much more joystick control in Aces of the Pacific.

Thanks all!

Hm normally that stuff should be configurable during installation or
by some setup program of the game. Anyways, nice it works now.

Just a quick note; I also noticed that the joystick is not working properly in Aces over Europe (both floppy and CD version) in DOSBox 0.74. For me, the joystick calibration screen is simply not responding to the joystick button (to continue the calibration steps), while it is working fine in versions prior to 0.74. Fortunately, the (timing?) problem is also resolved in a recent SVN build.

EDIT: The cause was not in the DOSBox version, but in the mapper file, see here.
