Which s3 virge DX driver should I use under Windows 98 SE. I am now using the standard that comes with Windows 98 SE. The PC crashes during the race in 3dmark 99 and also when I do the direct 3d test in dxdiag. This all works if I do this with the voodoo 2 card in the same PC. The drivers I can find on the internet for the s3 virge dx are all for Windows 95 and older than the standard Windows 98 SE driver. Which driver do I need to solve this problem in Windows 98 SE. I tried this on different s3 virge dx cards all 4MB memory.

Can an s3 virge dx 4mb even run 3dmark 99?

Try these: https://archive.org/details/s3-virge-dx-gx-gx2-win9x-driver. Drivers written for Windows 95 should work fine in Windows 98 and the ones that you're currently using aren't necessarily "newer" despite the date.

BTW, just use the Voodoo2 for 3D stuff. All S3 ViRGE cards aren't ideal for these except S3D and certain early D3D ones.

yes and no. It can start it and display enough of something to not be classified as an outright scam https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=A0ljjj4LTDc

From my testings the Virge/DX cannot run 3Dmark99, you can use Final Reality (on board accelerator) if you want to test the card.

From my experience with S3 ViRGE DX 375 4MB PCI on w98se and 3mark99max are those drivers:
http://vogonsdrivers.com/getfile.php?fileid=589&menustate=0

which is:
S3 VirgeDX/GX/GX2 Logo'd Windows 9x FASTD3D Driver
Version * 4.10.01.2122-3.42.02 *
S3D Tool Kit version (s3dtkw.dll) * 5.00.01 *
- 05/14/98 -

In practice it is stable and renders graphics much better than default w98se driver, but still far from perfection.
