If "DerBaum" finds the correct jumpering for 8-bit operation of the Trident, you can still resale or return the 8-bit VGA...

Wow. that thing looks... really old 😁
256k memory?

For editing BIOS setup it´s good to go.

And AFAIR most 8-bit VGA cards are indeed quite old.

On my side I just tried various jumper settings on the VGA card with no success.
Curious to see @DerBaum if you have more luck.

Ok.
I have good news (for you) and i have good news (for me).

All of these cards except the one on the left are 8 Bit compatible... including YOUR CARD.
center ones are 512k and the tseng is 1mb. Ignore the "A+" its just an internal marking for me wich ones have a good picture quality.

(sorry for the dim picture, i took it exactly at the moment it appeared on the screen and it wasnt fully there. Its normal brightness.)
I have removed the sticker to see the 8 Bit configuration and it works after i jumpered it correctly!
Have a look at all the 7 jumpers ( on top , near the ram and near the isa connector).

Many thanks for your time.
Unfortunately no such luck on my side. Still no VGA signal detected by the monitor.
I am wondering if that means the VGA card is dead or whether the issue is with my backplane/setup? Should the video card output a signal even if the SBC is not installed in a slot (I tried but nothing either)?
Attached are photos of the backplane from which the SBC was pulled out and with which I am making my tests. Very rudimentary.

Have you checked all jumpers?
The 3 near the ISA slot closed.
the 2 near the ram open.
The top ones (bottom of the top ones closed. upper one open?
At first i forgot to open the jumper at the lower ram chip and it didnt work. after i opened it , it worked.

A backplane is nothing fancy. just some isa slots in parallel and some power to it.
All my backplanes look quite similar.

no. in my test the monitor always stayed in standby when something wasnt right.

I did carefully check and double checked all jumpers again. With no success.
Am waiting for an 8 bit VGA card...
Thanks

I saw i made a mistake (but it worked anyway) J4 should be closed in 8-Bit mode.

Greetings,
Making some progress... I received another 16bits video card from Trident (HNG890CL-BBD1TIA1) with similar jumpers as on other Trident card, and this time it worked!
Next steps I will get into the BIOS and see if I can reconfigure that equipment.
Many thanks for the precious help!

Greetings All,

Many thanks again, much appreciated.
