Hello all,
All of a sudden, can't hear CD-Music audio (or games that utilize CD-Game audio, such as Quake II) anymore. I have replaced the CD audio cable with a different one, and still no go.
As you know, these cards have 2X CD Audio connectors on their PCB boards:
1X four-pin black-colored connector, and another four-pin white-colored (smaller sized) connector. I have tried both connectors (with their respective different audio cables) and still no go.
Observations:
1) This is under Windows 98SE .
2)Stranger thing is that when I use it under Windows ME, I can hear CD-Music audio, but CD-Game audio can't be heard)
3) Windows 2000 Pro (just like Windows 98SE) does NOT not produce any CD audio at all.
4) I have replaced this AWE64 Gold with a non gold AWE64, and CD-Music and CD-Game audio are working flawlessly!
5) I have even tried a different CD-ROM drive, and I get the exact same issue, so I know it is not the CD-ROM unit. My current CD-ROM drive is a Ricoh MP7040S (SCSI)

6) As I mentioned, it just happened, as I have been using this system for the past 2 years with no CD-audio issue.
This is really baffling.
Your insights are appreciated!
p.s. normal Sound Blaster audio, sound effects, etc. are working fine on the Gold, it is just the CD-Music, and CD-Game audio that are not working.
