Had everything rolling. 98SE installed, drivers. Looking great.

Disconnected power for awhile and installed my SB live to install those drivers. System will now not post.

Did the typical, unplug everything, battery pull, One at a time.

Nothing connected but one stick of ram and GPU.

On system power up, the system pings the monitor as it turns on waiting for data that never comes. USB power is never applied. Swapped video cards and I get USB power randomly. No post beeps to troubleshoot.

I pull all the ram, it beeps accordingly. Disconnect VGA power from molex. Beeps accordingly.

Going to let the system sit for awhile with no power or CMOS battery now while I scratch my head. Possible the BIOS is corrupted? It is possible to recover them via floppy and the right file but that seems like major surgery.

Normal bios jumper position, and “configure” same results. No jumper it will go after the floppy drive (when connected) like it should for a bios recovery file.

So close and yet another swift kick to the nuts.

I assume you tried removing the SB Live?

I have an Audigy 2 ZS I bought untested on eBay; put it in and things won't post...

Well at absolute random I connected everything including the SB live and like magic it all works again. I’m curious if this is a bios problem. Maybe an update will fix this boot hang issue.

Makes my teeth chatter when I go to repaste/clean my FX5900 Ultra and I get stuck in a loop of death with no post.

If anyone has recommendations to the “best” bios for this platform I’m all ears.

I would call that... life, especially with home-built systems? You knocked something out just one teeny bit somewhere such that an electrical connection is just a teeny bit loose and, boom, no POST.

I've had that happen before, e.g. swap out a video card, system won't POST with any video card anymore. Turns out the RAM got... slightly loose or something - take out the RAM, put it back in, now it works.

Which BIOS were you using before the no post? (Intel retail or OEM / Gateway)

You can find the latest of both (Intel P34 / Gateway P15) here https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/intel- … nanza#downloads
