Well disk image support has been implemented by canadacow with real
DOS in mind. Mounting them along with the dosbox-internal DOS is only
usable as far as file copying, not cheating around some OS limitations
(5 open files).

I don't really get your point here ... sorry 🙁

If you have any serious use for win3x on your psp, you should use the booting way and transfer files to/from the image using imgmount or some external tools. This should provide the best compatibility anyways.

Well, I have some "serious" use for Win 3.11, but this is not the point. It is that I want to use Win 3.11 without any limitations which I would have if I just ran Win 3.11 from an ISO or whatever (e.g. I can't save anything), PLUS I want to play my good old DOS games before I use Windows or afterwards. But this is impossible if the game cannot find the CD-ROM.

Well for the win3x stuff use the diskimage+boot approach, for the rest use plain mounting.

well, I think you've already said that .. is there any OTHER solution, maybe to get both simultaneously?

Yes, but that one does not seem to work with the psp limitations it seems.

Sorry, but what?

Do you mean to run Windows 3.11 from an ordinary folder, mounted as a drive? If you mean that, you are right, unfortuntely, this is impossible.

But I was talking about a solution like copying the content of the CD into an image (maybe even one of those hard drive images) and mounting that file as a drive. I mean Dosbox would mount this drive as a hard drive, but is this really a problem? One could even label the Drive with the same name as the CD. Of course, it wouldn't be in ISO 9660 format but FAT, but is this a problem? UNfortunately I haven'T a single CD here in my flat, have to wait till I am back home to try this. But what do you think?

Sorry, but why don't you reply on that? 🙁 I just wanted to know whether you know some more important imformation. If not, a simple NO is enough ... 😀

Um because i have maybe better things to do than reply the same answers
over and over in one thread? Maybe fix your OS so it can open >5 files,
which was even possible with 640k of memory, so should be possible on
your 32mb+ psp.

🤣 yeah ... sure ... now I got it 😀 I'll fix MY OS (XMB of PSP) ... but how you brainiac?! this is a limitation of the PSP ... PLEASE .. tell me how to fix that! I wanna know this DESPERATELY!

Anyway ... u needn't repeat this stuff over and over again .. as you MIGHT have read if you read my question carefully, I wanted to know some alternative (one potential alternative I proposed and asked about ur opinion!) ... not the same s ... stuff once again!

not the same s ... stuff once again!

Ah yes then you know why there was no response? Nice!

Guess you could ask sony why they got a five files limit.

I'm locking this thread.

These are the official DosBox forums where we only offer support for official DosBox. We do not support the PSP. We do not really offer support for running Windows in DosBox.

Go bother the person who ported DosBox to the PSP to implement some hacked together solution to overcome the limitations of Sony's proprietary BS. Not us.
