The exact thing that happened: i tried to connect a 3 1/2 drive to the same cable and that was reversed.
From that moment on the 5 1/4 drive stopped working properly.

Yes, we have seen too many onboard integrated 4MB, or 8MB Millennium II with an expansion board, but with an integrated 8MB onboard, it is very special and I believe it can achieve 16MB with an expansion board.

Well , if the new one works I wouldn't touch it.
My experience with dead floppy drives is: when they are dead leave them as is. You can only do more damage (to other drives).
Sad but true.

Besides that: I've never seen such a nice and colorful PCB. It really looks like a piece of art (at least from the picture). How the hell are all those resistors and capacitors mounted? They look like inserted in unplated through holes.

Acquired 2 of those ... looks like HP branded Asus p2b-d variant ? (HP NetServer E60).

Both boot up fine, extensive testing needed. Very basic AMI bios.

I've never had a reversed 3.5" cable damage anything, it always results in an always on LED on the drive activity light and a complete misdetection of the drive. Reverse plugging a 5.25" cable is kind of difficult as they are supposed to be keyed on one edge. That said, I HAVE seen cables with edge connectors that were not keyed, not to mention that you could plug in the motherboard end of the cable in reverse..

16 would be cool - with a huge CRT it may be nice to see... I do not know the maximum resolution the MMII supports though... maybe 1600x1200x32 with two pages.

Last year i bought an HP Netserver lp1000r
Dual 1Ghz Coppermine. It was very cheap. 30€ shipped !

I was surprised to see that it was actually an Asus board inside.

The HP bios was very limited and i was able to flash the original ASUS one without any issue.
Can worth a try if you have two boards.
If the flashing fails, you can reflash the old bios from the second board by hotswapping the rom.

Have TL866 programmer and BIOS is socketed, so no problem there. But I can't find the original Asus model 😉.

I have one with 8MB as well, so they can't be that rare 😆 If you're curious about the benefits of having 16MB on a Millennium II check out: Matrox Millennium II 16MB - exists? If so, why?

I had no plans to ever buy this board, but since I stumbled into some of the last AGP cards released (7800 GS and HD 4650), I figured I might as well pick up one of the last AGP boards to go along with them - the 775Dual-VSTA. An I/O Shield, 2GB of DDR2, and an Intel Core2 E7600 were also included. The RAM has since been swapped out with Corsair Xtreme XMS2 PC2-6400 4-4-4-12@350MHz Dominator PC2-8500 5-5-5-15. Initially, it would not run with two sticks of the Dominator Rev. 1.2 - the board would only POST with a single stick installed. However, I also have a matching set of 2GB Rev. 1.0, and the board is now working fine with them.

I also picked up a GeForce 2 Ti, which is being tested in the board at the moment before moving on to the 7800 GS, HD 4650, and once it arrives, a 550 Ti.

Based on a single low res photo and barely a description more than "old PC" I grabbed this system off Facebook Marketplace. Looked like a 286 or 386, and with the monitor it seemed like it was worth saving.

I think I made a good gamble: It had a nice little surprise inside, a Cyrix 486DLC-33. 😀

Other than that, it's an Acer ISA486GLi motherboard with a couple floppy drives, two Maxtor IDE drives (131MB and 540MB) and didn't really have much in terms of cards installed, an Oak OTI-077 being the most "exciting". This "Axiom" VGA monitor seems unremarkable too, can't find much record of it existing online, but I do like having more serviceable smaller CRTs for older systems like this that won't be pushing high resolutions.

Haven't quite decided if I will hold on to this or not, but will probably at least keep the 486DLC.

A few members here feel that DX2/66 are overrated and fast 386 slow 486 are the sweetspot for late 80s into early 90s DOS gaming, and then jump to pentium for the Doom+ FPS and fast action stuff. So that would be a good reason to keep this one together and use it.

Recently acquired a rare Tandy 1000 TL/3.

System is in really nice shape, just a little dusty on the inside and no visible rust. Did a brief power on test and seems to boot up just fine.

At some point I'll probably give it a complete teardown to clean out the disk drive, inspect the motherboard and replace the PSU fan.

With this TL/3 in my possession, my Tandy TL trinity is finally complete. 😁
