So I wanted to play with Epson HX-20 emulator and started googling for one. I quickly discovered Takeda Toshiya's website (http://takeda-toshiya.my.coocan.jp/) with dozens of emulators including Epson HX-20. Wow!

I downloaded binary.7z with all of those emulators ... just to discover that none of them includes any software to run on those emulators. More than that, they even missing OS!

From my research on the Internet I understood that it's not only me being puzzled. There were even some folks who tried to contact Takeda Toshiya but it seems he simply ignores those messages.

Is it the biggest joke in computers emulation history or what? Did anyone actually manage to make use of any of his emulators?

Emulator authors have no obligation to bundle nor provide copyrighted materials. It's been the first rule of emulators since forever.

You're right, the only problem is that all those copyrighted materials are not being sold by their manufacturers anymore ... for more than 30 years now.

Hi there. I've been searching for various emulator s for a very long time, I think.
From I've learnt, Japanese authors are very careful when it comes to these things.
They also more hesitated to provide source code in the early days.
In their country, emulators as such had a certain stigma to them, also.
Paradoxically, at same time, some Japanese IT companies are more likely to make things free to be used by community, as well.

So? Even though it's a stupid law, it is a law in certain countries and on this forum.

Discussion on how to get those roms and software is against the rules of this place. Fortunately, if you read the rules, they give a location where you might find what you're after.

Are you a lawyer? Where exactly I was asking how to get those ROMs illegally? I was asking if anyone managed to make use of any of those emulators and was talking about a problem of getting this software these days LEGALLY. I think you have no idea what you're talking about.

Well, you don't have to publish copyrighted software in order to make an emulator to act like a real thing. For example there are plenty of emulators of calculators, some of which are made by Japanese authors and those emulators act like a real thing and not showing you a blank screen waiting for you to get from somewhere the exact version of code that will make this thing work, like Takeda Toshiya's emulators do. And yes, calculators also have a copyrighted code inside. So, it's really weird that you make dozens of emulators, show how they work, publish them and don't even try to make them work (legally of course) for others too. From what I have understood he doesn't even tell what version of ROMs he did use and how to load those ROMs to his emulators. Maybe I missed something, so that's exactly why I'm asking if anyone did manage to make use of those emulators.
