-Space for a full size, or laptop size CD drive
-A full size floppy (gotek)
-space for a full compliment of typical expansion agp/pci/isa cards
-Commercially available now, and easy to find for purchace.

Have a dozen or two cases and the smallest one with full size ATX board (has a MSI 865 Neo2) is 16" tall X 17.5" long. Will try to find the model, think it an InWin but not sure. Have seen same/similar on Newegg recently.
Added: Is similar to a Fractal Design Focus G. https://www.newegg.com/black-fractal-design-f … N82E16811352069 but a tiny bit smaller.
Yep it is a InWin C Series like this: https://www.newegg.com/black-in-win-c-series- … /1B4-00J0-00067 but only 3 ext.bays and not as long and discontinued...sorry maybe on Ebay
Most of the full ATX board cases are 17"+ tall X 19" long that I have...

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

Smallest in which dimension?

There were a lot of cases that put the PSU next to the motherboard instead of above/below it. That gives you a lot less height, but inevitably the cases got a lot wider. Also there can be limitations on CPU cooler height.

Things like this:
https://www.nix.ru/autocatalog/cases_inwin/Mi … 7.html#pid=2241

Then there are cases with a sideways-mounted PSU in front of the motherboard. These are both lower and no wider than regular cases, but get longer (and might get a bit too cramped with very long cards).

Things like this:
https://www.coolermaster.com/catalog/cases/mi … asterbox-q500l/

What is 'smallest' or 'best' depends on the dimension that is most relevant to you and which compromises (low CPU coolers, short cards etc) you consider acceptable.

Wow dionb ! That Coolermaster is small at ~15.1" tall x 15" long (for us in USA ;p).

I have that cooler master. It is flimsy and has no drive bays. It has magnetic covers and filters that are always snagging and falling off. It’s very delicate

Isn’t bad, but was hoping for something smaller actually. And more stylish.

Terribly sorry but feeling a bit annoyed now:

- you apparently already had a very small option, but chose not to share that with us, leading us to waste time looking for things you already know.
- you haven't answered my question on what 'smaller' actually means - which dimension in particular, choosing to again ask for 'smaller' without clarifying what that means to you.

I’m looking for one that meets the criteria I posted. The one I have does not.

You being annoyed is unfortunate.

Simply looking for what I described. In the smallest configuration possible.

But what is "smallest" for you?

x-axis only?
y-axis only?
z-axis only?
Smallest front surface area (x times y)
Smallest volume? (x times y times z)

Are you being vague on purpose?

I sorta went thru similar search with my last new build, ended up with Corsair Obsidian 200R because I wanted full ATX board and some external bays and not some "super" sized tower.
It is bigger than you would want but is very rugged compared to some others in same price range....
I will look around a bit more and post anything that is = or less than 17" tall x 17" long and has externals...
Merry Christmas everyone !

all should be as compact as possible.

Perhaps something pentium 2 era style with psu mounted above cpu. Or proprietary psu like shuttle

But the trick is finding something with mounts for a 5-1/4 and 3.5

Or a laptop cd bay.

Basically, I want a shuttle but for full atx mobos
